I've actually read somewhere, chuckhawks perhaps, that the 6.5 CM suffers noticeably when used in 24 and 22 inch barrels as opposed to the 28 it was apparently designed for. So perhaps there info out there that the savage rep based his advice on. Hard to think the same issues wouldn't befall the .260 but who nows.
