Hey guys, I've nearly narrowed down my rifle selection and now it's on to caliber. I'm familiar with common options, but I've been reading that the Creedmoor round is super efficient and could be the next go-to small caliber round. Does anyone here have any experience with them, or any thoughts. Cheers.

I love my Creed... It is a very nice round in a short action... It is very efficient, and with excellent accuracy.

Brass formed from 22-250

Wait...you mean you take a .250 savage and neck it down to .22 so you can blow it out to .264 and have a cool new round???

What do you folks think of the .250 savage? Which can be blow out to a .300 savage which is just about like a .308 which could be necked down to 6.5 and basically be a .260.

Oh I think I'll just get a 6.5X55 Swedish Mauser.

The 260 is the finest deer cartridge on the internet, the 6.5 Swede is northern Europe's moose slayer and the creedmoor is setting the long range shooting circuit on fire. Other than that they're all about the same. lol

I've had all of them. 260 rem, 6.5x55, 6.5cm and 6.5x47. Only have the 6.5x47 left now. Custom build, excellent brass, 2725fps with the 140gr berger out of a 24" barrel, not stressing brass and coal is 2.732" 10 though off lands and boat tail just at the bottom of the neck.

"The 260 is the finest deer cartridge on the internet" LOL you will probably get some arguments about that...on the internet...

Just trying to stir a little healthy debate :D

Seriously to the OP get the Creedmoor its a well thought out cartridge with quality components for it by several manufacturers it was designed from the get go to satisfy those picky long range bench rest shooters. I almost did the same last yr but it was pointed out to me that lapua is now making brass for the 260 so it won the coin toss. Get the Creed, you won't be disappointed. 120gr ttsx for hunting, the new 129gr accubond long range to see what it can do way out there...and of course the accubond being capable hunting bullet as well designed to preform best at long range. Lots of other choices and the new Creedmoor has only helped the increasing number of 6.5mm bullet offerings on the market.

my oldest son set out from home to buy a Savage Light Weight Hunter in the Creedmoor, but was advised by the Savage rep at the gun counter to go for the 260 Rem instead. Reason being, the little savage was not the best rifle for the Creedmoor to perform real well in and nothing would be cheap about shooting the Creedmoor. So, he bought the 260 and is very happy with his little hunting rifle.

I shoot the whole .308 family... Including .260 with 120 TTSX... But I like the CM for paper at a distance...

I reload so I may be out of touch but the only factory ammo I see for the 260 is expensive 140gr core lock.

Nothing wrong with the 260 Rem but not sure how it's that much cheaper to shoot than the Creedmoor and not sure why the 260 would perform in the rifle and the CM wouldn't. Sounds to me like the salesman was not overly familiar with the CM.

It wasn't the salesman, it was the Savage Firearms Rep at the gun counter with the Cabela's saleman. I think it had something to do with the barrel on the light weight hunter, not being the best suited for the CM to perform it's very best in.

"...think I'll just get a 6.5X55..." Be a whole lot easier to get brass and ammo for than a Creedmoor. Hornady seems to be the only commercial loader and maker of brass. Like hordes of other cartridges, it's really another answer to an unasked question.
"...probably get some arguments..." Ford vs GM, just like everything else.

Still sounds to me like he didn't know much about the CM or perhaps he had a few 260s to get rid of but no harm, your son got a great chambering.
