This may seem like a stupid question but this round would take a magnum primer correct? I came across data where the guy didn't use magnum primers so it got me wondering. I'll be using Rem. brass any brand of primer better than the other?

no not correct , you can use them , I personally have only used large rifle primers , they are more than adequate.. Just because a cartridge is called a magnum, doesn't mean it automatically needs magnum primers. :)in fact be careful using mag primers, they can make your powder burn faster , making it seem like you have added extra powder, has resulted in ..... click ..... BOOM .

6.5 Rem Mag is one of the original "short mags". Any LR primer will do. Different ones can affect your load and accuracy, though I doubt you would actually notice in the larger calibers. Larger cases do require magnum primers, but the 6.5 rem Mag case capacity is actually only on par with the 30-06. - dan

Large rifle primers may work, but I would check your reloading manual and depending on the powder you are using you may have to use a Magnum primer.
