6.5x284 Load development

Just wondering, maybe should have posted it in the percision rifle board, but what are the guys using in teh 6.5x284 for barrel twists 1:8

I want to start developing a load I see H-4831, H-4350 and RL-22 are popular, and 4831 SC is becoming good as well.

Any suggestions on what to start with.
 
I had my best luck with RL 22 RL 25 and VV N560. My rifle was 1 in 7, tried Sierra 142 , Hndy Amax 140, Lapua Scennar 140 and Berger 140. If you are going to use the RL powders avoid the Federal 210M and go with the CCI Br primer, the Federal and the RL don't seem to get along. Stick to the slow end of the burn speed chart for top velocity.

H4350 is very popular but VERY hard on the throats. Lowest load density so you may have more work to tune out the vertical.

H4831SC or reg H4831 should offer a longer life.????? Fill the case more. The powder I use exclusively in my 6.5 Mystic -H4831SC.

H1000/Re25 might be slow enough to give high load density and longer pipe life.

Either way the 142gr MK, 139gr Lapua, 140gr Berger and Amax are your top choices for high BC LR bullets. The 140gr MK is a ballistic dog by comparison. Better to use a 130gr Berger or 123gr Laupa.

I have been shooting both Fed 210M and BR2 in my rifles. The BR2 will handle more pressure before cratering. Both work well.

I have used Fed primers with Re25 for some of the best accuracy out of 7mm's so they work just fine together.

Are the 142s that much better

The nice thing about the savage F-Class is my COL is 3.075 to kissing the lands lots of bullet left in the case, I heard that you could not find the lands in the new savages but for factory mine is reached with no problems..

I need to get some 142s I guess vs the 140 SMKs
 
I had a little trouble finding the lands as well in mine.

Yesterday at 200 yards I ran Sierra 142 with H 4350 and GM 210M starting at 44.0 grains to 46.0 in 1/2 increments.Average velocity of 2709.4 fps. SD and ES were good for the 44.0 load but the rest of the data was lost as my chrony took a break for a bit.

I didn't get a group worth talking about with any charge using H 4350.

Next load was same bullet, same OAL with RL 19 and BR 2 primers.

Load started at 45.5 to 47.5 in 1/2 grains again. Lapua brass in both tests and weight sorted.

45.5 showed avg. velocity of 2861.8, ES and SD were brutal.

47.5 had an average of 3156.6, SD and ES under 20 in both. Group size measured .600 at 200 yards.

I am going to try some more with RL 19 and maybe RL 22.

What type of rig are you running
 
BTW dissapointing day wind gusts past 50 km at my range i did not bother attemping a first shoot with mine..

I went alot hotter than you did in your loads, 48.0 gr of H 4350 and 51 gr of 4831 sc and 51 gr of Rl-22 for starters..

Hope its not too much but from what i read and talked about its not
