Hi Guys
I am looking for some feedback on your favorite loads for 6.5x54 M@S. I found an old reloading book that has reload data but the component and powder selection is old also. What are your favorite modern loads?
I am looking to hunt deer with the old M and S rifle I picked up, the rifle is a beauty. I just have to develope a nice load.
Thanks for your help

My Hornady Handbook #3 is dated 1989. Is that modern enough?

With 129 gr spire point they list 32.8 grs IMR 3031, 34.4 grs H4895, 34.8 grs IMR 4064, 35.1 grs IMR 4320, 36.4 grs H380, 41.1 grs IMR 4350, 43.7 grs H4831, 44.0 grs N204.

Those are all MAX loads giving between 2300-2400 fps.

That is way better that 1970 info. Thanks:)

Loads from 100-160gr can be found here:

FYI my M1903 had problems feeding Hornady's 160gr RN.

BTW the local shop has a couple of boxes of RWS factory loads. IIRC they are ~$90 a box.

Do you have dies? I have an old Lee Loader kicking around if you are interested.

Thanks so much. I bought a boxof RWS at 80 bucks and that hurt :(... I just have to get a bag of new brass and I will be all ready to load, I already have the dies.
Thats a cool link to Hodgson, I am glad the info is still around.
Have a good day

Handloader # 280 October 2012 has a good article written by Terry Wieland on the MS 1903.
His suggested handloads are as follows : 140 Nosler Partition over 35.0 gr. 3031 for a velocity of 2,377 fps.
155 Lapua Mega 42.0 gr. H4350 ................... 2,359
160 Hornady RN 34.0 gr. 3031......................2,240
I used the first load in my 6.5 MS several years ago and according to my records it worked very well, filling one Mule Deer tag.
My notes show a one shot kill at about 70 yards in timber.... not exactly long range, but more than adequate.
Hope this helps....
