6.5X55 Ackley Improved. [Report]

I just graphed two shots [started to rain, had to pull in my Chronograph] out of my 6.5x55 AI using BR2 Primer in Lapua brass with 49.5 grains of Norma MRP chasing the 142 Sierra. There are no pressure signs at all, primers are still rounded on the edges, and extraction is very easy. Here are the readings: 2915, 2918. FWIW 5 of those Sierras went into .309" at 100 Meters. :D I'm seated .012" off the lands. Regards, Eagleye.

The MRP is similar in burning rate to the VV165 which gave me velocities in the mid 2900's also using 49.5. A bit slower than 4831, it's a good performer but I've gotten better accuracy from 4831sc. Besides, the vitavouri powders are a bit spendy and, about the time I find a good load with one, I find the supply to have dried up. I can always get 4831sc.
I've been trying out some 140 A-Max bullets and they work pretty well. I have only tried them at 300M and will find out later how they do at long range. Regards, Bill.

Bill; Thanks for your input. I am trying H4831Sc in the next run. I have a fair amount of one lot of MRP laid in from a bulk purchase some years ago, so it is not a problem if it works. However, I also have some VV N165 here, but have not tried it, and am not sure I will. I use it with 140 grain bullets in my 270 for excellent performance. Lots of experimenting in the next few weeks to see what works at long distances. Our extended range here in PG is nearly ready for action, so am looking forward to trying some loads beyond 300. Regards, Eagleye.
