I am looking for advice on which bullet weight may be considered the most accurate in Swede Mausers for reloading purposes.

I was specifically trying to choose between with 129 SP or 140 SP. Any advice? Or are they all about the same?

thanks

I shoot a 1:8" twist 260 Remington, so this sort of applies

most 6.5x55 rifles are 1:7 or 1:8 twists, with long throats for 155-160 gr. round nose bullets. The bullets that in theory should shoot the best are long 140 gr. bullets with a long bearing surface. A couple that come to mind are Sierra 140 gr. GameKing BTSP's and 140 gr. Hornady Interlock SP's.

That being said my 1:8" 260 Rem will shoot the 95 gr. Hornady Vmax as well as any other bullet I have loaded so far. (But I have a short throat cut on my barrel and can load the bullets close to the rifling, unlike a long throat Swede).

I have had great luck with both Hornady bullets in both Swede military rifles and commercial rifles. I have used the 140 sp most I suppose.

I prefer the 140's(139 Lapua) but my guns shoot the 120's almost as well. I have shoot a few Lapua 156g round nose's they work well but not as goos as the 139's.

I have two swede's one will shoot everything very accuratly from 85 gr to 140. the other doesn't like any thing under 120 gr. Try several weights and see what your rifle likes.

my rem 700 classic likes the 142gr seirra BTHP match the best.
that being said, the rest are pritty dam good to.
the longer the bullet, the better it seems to be in most of the millitary rifles.
in the long M96 the factory 160 that imperial used to load, would shoot as good as any

I have a Sako with a 1-9 twist and it Likes 140 grain and up.It will even shoot 155 Sierra match into 1/2".According to Sierria its not suppost to handle the 155's

I've got 2 swedes that I load for and soon to be 3. One will shoot just about anything into an inch. The second, will only shoot 140grs and heavier into anything that resembles a group. For hunting I prefer the 140gr, one bullet for all purposes.

The fellas that I load for , and the Swedes that I used to shoot all get the 160 Sierra SMP for all around hunting.
it is a very good moose bullet, and deer just drop when hit in the vitals with it.

I occasionally use the 140 Game King, but mostly load the 160.
The distances that we shoot our animals up here range from 25 to about 200 yards.
The 6.5 x55's that I load for have taken both types of deer , one elk, several moose, and more than a few bears at these ranges.
The farthest was a bang flop on a big mule deer at 225 paces.
The 160 is very accurate in all the '96 Mausers that we used it in.

hard to argue against the results of a bullet with high sectional density and moderate velocity. I'm sure lack of penetration isnt of too much of a concern when loading those 160's ;)

140gr Hornady Spire points
140gr Remington Core Loc (bulk)
120gr Barnes XLC
160gr Hornady Round Nose
In my Tikka the Hornady and Barnes shoot like the devil, while my M96 likes the 160 Hornady and Remington bullets. The Ruger liked nothing and will be rebarrelled to 7mm-08.

I have been using the 140gr SST with excellent results for accuracy at LR. Not hunted with it but being of Interlock design, will work extremely well on all manner of game.

Might be the right bullet choice if the throat is long. These bullets are very long for weight.

It depends on what you want. If you want to chase velocity, the 120 gr (lots of choices) is great, If you want to upgrade to bigger game/bullets the 140 gr partition is an old standby. Properley loaded, most Swedes will shoot the 129 gr Hor well. at about 46gr IMR 4350
