I just purchased a 6.5x55 SM (my first ever) and asking if anyone would like to post their most accurate loads using the 140 grain bullet. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
 
For my Tikka:
140gr Hornady SP, 46gr RE22 (thats with a CCI200 primer, Win brass, at 3.03" OAL).
Averages around 2530fps, sub MOA.

Lots of guys report an 'accuracy node' in their 6.5x55's with 140gr bullets and 45-46gr RE22. Its quite mild but appears to work!

That load SHOULD be safe in a M96 as it is within the published SAAMI data specs (51KPSI) but as per usual start with the minimum published charges/data and work up.
 
That 47gr dose of Re#22 and a 140gr is deadly in my son's T3 .With Partitions it went through both sides of a big cow moose at 50 yards.Bang Flop..........Harold
 
46.4gr RE-22 with a 142gr Sierra Matchking and Nosler Custom brass out of my T3 Varmint Stainless did this at 300 yards.

I haven't been able to duplicate these results again, unfortunately.
 
"...their most accurate loads..." Those may or may not be accurate out of your rifle. No two will shoot the same ammo the same way. You must work up the loads for your rifle.
 
What rifle do you have?

My rifle and recipes:

Tikka T3 Varmint 23.75" barrel

I found that while the rifle shoots great with RL22, it is very temp sensitive. At 0*C average velocity was 2654fps and at 18.7*C average was 2703fps. That's 6" at 550yards...

Thanks a big bunch to everyone for their accuracy loads! It appears that Reloder 22 is the most popular powder between 46 to 49 grains. I also checked my Nosler reloading manual and it as well recommends Reloder 22. The firearm that I purchsed is a Krico (made in Germany) model 700, with a 24 inch barrel. I'm having a SOB of a time to find rings and bases. EAW makes them.......................but $400.00 plus. Weaver also makes them, but would perfer something with a little better quality. Conetrol is my last hope, and in the process of inquiring. Please keep posting loads because I will experiment with more than one powder. Thanks Again!
 
After a fair bit of experimenting trying different loads I've settled on, Prvi 139gr SPBT over 46gr imr7828, easy on the Winchester and Prvi brass. Not high tech here, basic and simple seems to agree just fine with both my 1942 M38 Husqvarnas. Off the bench at 200 I'm always amazed at how well they shoot with basic open tangent sights and how nice they are to shoot. The kids really look forward to shooting the Swedes as much as I do. I have to say I really enjoy the 6.5 Swede. I am keeping an eye out for a nice M96, just for the fun of it.

Since this thread applies to my question, I will revive it.

I have a M96, and am having a hell of a time with my first time reloading for it, and reloading in general.

I have 140 grain SST bullets and 139 grain PRivi fmj's. My lyman reloading book says that IMR 4895 is the best powder to use for these type of bullets.

When I have tested them, they do not seem to preform as well as my factory bullets.

So far I have had the best groups using 34.5 grains, but still not as good as I know the M96 can do. The book is telling me not to go above 36, so I feel as though I am running out of space to play with here.

Can anyone recommend any better powder and min/max levels for it?
 
I tryed 140gr for my Rem 700 custom with all different powders, turnes out it likes the 120gr alot better, group size anyway.
