6.5X55 Swede hot loads?

Actually, Norma ballistic lab can reproduce it almost at will (if not at will). Since the Krupp Commission most manufacturers take their findings in count. But it is also documented from when they developped the "slower" burning powders after WWI - DuPont, ICI, Nobel all experienced it. P.O. Ackley is one who was almost successful in reproducing it at will and in the '50's, he then joined with Norma to do more experiments, each on their sides, comparing their results, which later brang their conclusions.

Swedish Mausers were re-barreled to 308 and used as target rifles. We called them "Gustafs". They digested thousands and thousands of rounds of ball ammo running in the 55,000 to 60,000 psi range, with no problem.

Work up you loads in the usual manner, watching for pressure signs.

I suggest a slower powder than 4350. 4831 and RL22 have worked well for me.

ok so heres a hot load for a 6.5 x 55
we have tried this load in a
sako 85a factory heavey barrel 22 inch
custom 700 shilien barrel 22 inch
custom 700 kreiger barrel 24 inch
CZ550 factory heavey barrel 23.4 barrel

powders tested
h4831sc
h4350
rl 19
rl22
imr4350
imr4831

load weights 44-51 grains

best results in the 700 kreiger 49 rl 22 great groups .3 moa border line pressure signs
don't shoot this load in 20 + Celsius primer pockets blowing out at + 30
cold weather this load is great

this load is to hot for an old sako action blew apart twice

rem 700 and cz ok

rl 19 was to hot

but again best groups were from rl 22 in all rifles

all 3 rifles CZ , sako and rem700 with shilen were backed down to 46 reloaded 22

4831sc was ok but not hole in hole

I just picked up some dies and Hornady 140's.

Looking forward to playing around with my old obendorf, I haven't had it out of the safe in 30 years and my son wants to shoot it.

I have some IMR 4831 on hand so I'm going to start with that.
