6.5x55 the little overachiever.

Not to argue but I have never seen or heard of a surplus M98 in 6.5x55.

I've got several of them....
S&L used surplus K98's as their ISSF target rifles, they crushed the Swedes GG63 so bad that the Swedes started allowing S&L to make barrels, triggers, and sights for them.
Commercial 98's like FN/HVA/PH have also been chanmmbered in the Swede since the 50's.
It's a ridiculously accurate cartridge, and with the faster lock time of a 98 vs a 96 it gets even better.

I have a Tikka T3x lite. Mild recoil when compared with 270 win and 30-06. Sub-moa accuracy with handloads for Hornady SST 140, Hornady IL 160, SGK 140, NP 140 and NABLR 142. Speeds around 2800 fps with NP 140 and NABLR 142 and mpbr +/- 3 inches at 290. I doubt a custom rifle would do better. What not to like? It is a handloader dream but if one does not handload a 270 win would be a better option, IMHO.

Lol original content on cgn, better delete 95% of the threads!!!

Ok, How about regurgitated material filtered through a frail human typing on keys about sh*t they have read about on the internet... or the other 5% who actually load and shoot and hunt.

I'd wager I have hunted more non-Ruger rifles by a good bit... and have had more 6.5x55's than most on this thread... hardly what I am referring to.

Trying to get this somewhat back on track.... anyone know if the CZ 527 carbine was offered in this caliber? or for a shorter compact rifle would i be looking at a 550... other brands?

The 527 was not made in long action... but the 550 was, I have a 550 Lux in 6.5x55 and 7x64.

What's with the repeated Wikipedia posts?

Sure the Swede is a great cartridge, so are hundreds of others that do virtually the same thing in the same way.

FYI Hoyt . My post was all original thoughts . Not Wikipedia crap as you insinuate. I have a lot of respect for your knowledge of guns and shooting. Please show a little respect for others. I was shooting when you were suckling your mothers breast. I've learned a few things along the way. Thanks

Makes me wonder why we needed a 6.5 Creedmoor, marketing? Or is the Creedmoor that much more accurate?

Creedmoor fits in short action rifles, 6.5x55 does not. Both are efficient and accurate cartridges (accuracy would mostly be dependant on the rifle). It basically comes down to if you want short or long action, if it even matters to you. I would also say that ammo availability and variety is swayed in favour of the creedmoor, could be on account of marketing?

Most cartridges invented since the 30-06 are about marketing, and reinventing well known equipment.
Bullets and propellants have advanced significantly over the years, but manufacturers need a hook to get you buying new guns.
