Ok, the 243 VS 308 got me thinking. I've been meaning to pickup another 6.5 to replace my old 6.5x55 Winchester feather weight that I sold some year back. I was my favorite deer gun and killed them like Thor's hammer had hit them but the 260 looks close to the 6.5x55 but better rifle selection then I got to looking at the 7mm-08 and thought that is not bad either. What say you all?

you really could flip a coin and be super happy in either case. Id suggest finding a rifle you really like, then go from there

I chose the 260 Remington myself. If I shot factory ammo, the 7mm-08 is more attractive. Since I handload and mainly hunt deer and coyotes, the 260 is a better choice IMO, since I can load a bullet lighter than 100 grains and stil have a good ballistic coefficient for downrange velocity & drift. The lighter bullets in the 7mm caliber are more blunt and arent as impressive way out there, like a 100-110 gr. Anything over 120 grain is pointy enough, but muzzle velocity starts to suffer. Hard to beat a 6.5mm 95 gr Vmax @ 3300 fps, with its BC of .365. For hunting deer, anything of 120 grains and up will work, like Interlocks, Partitions, etc

For a deer catridge, the 260 sure as alot going for it. I'd go for the 7-08 if I shot factor ammo or bigger things liek moose were on the menu...

Both good. I'd go 260 'cause I already gots a 7-08 :)

I like the 260 over the 6.5x55 for the simple fact that the 260 fits in a true short action, which just feel better in my hands.

A Win. Featherweight in any of those three would be great. Which ever one turns up in a good deal first. Not that it makes a big difference but, the old 6.5x55 isn't a short action cartridge.

Rifles in 260 are easier to find but the 6.5x55 is easier to load heavier bullets for due to the longer mag well. Perhaps a 6.5x55AI ?

I'd go with the 6.5x55. Personal choice with me as one of my favorite rounds for hunting and paper punching. Have a lot of faith in my .30 calibers ( .308, 30-06 and even .303 ) but those 6.5's have some magic.

For me it goes 6.5x55(don't want),.260(don't want),7mm-08(don't want).....The swede made its name with 160 gr. bullets and fast twist barrels, ensuring deep penetration, reliable expansion even at modest velocities, all this without trick TSX bullets, imagine!!
