6.6x55 swede or 25/06?

Looking through Nosler 7 information - for 6.5x55 with 23" barrel for coyotes and such have 120 B-tip @ 3000 fps (H4350 and RL19), for deer/moose have 140 Accubond or Partition just under 2800 (H4831 and H1000). For bigger stuff (like polar bears), I believe Norma and Woodleigh list 160 Round Nose. 25-06 with 24" barrel tops out with 120 grain Partition at 3,175 with Retumbo, then 3,096 with Magnum, so about 100 to 150 fps faster than same weight in 6.5x55. 140 grain 6.5mm has S.D. of .287; 120 grain .257 has S.D. of .260.
I don't believe one will do anything the other can't. I'd go with the 6.5x55, but mostly because of the Norma brass, Nosler bullets and Lyman reloading dies that I already have because of the four that I already own. Full disclosure - I've never owned, never used a 25 caliber of any sort. I do have and use .224, .243, .264, .284, .308, .312, .323, .338, .366 and .458.
When I had just one rifle it was a 308 Win. Then got a 22 rimfire. Next added was a 338 Win Mag. Then got a 243 Win ("for the wife" Ha!) Left to their own devices in the gun cabinet, they started having puppies and things got a bit carried away...

Both fill the gap but the 6.5 is more versatile with more factory ammo and wider bullet range with the 6.5x55.

The 6.5 x 55 has a light recoil and I love them. I load only partitions 125's, and 140's in the sweeds, so reliable expansion up close or far is not an issue. I wish I had discovered this cal. 40 years ago.

the optimal cartridge ‘between 243w and 338w’ is the 270 Win. If you have a 243w and a 338w already, then you might as well stick to the Winchester family - its not like the 25/06 or the 6.5x55 will offer anything more.

I was in the same predicament so I bought both. Can you really have too many rifles? If your gonna choose the Swede over The '06. I'll mention something that no one else has yet.....be sure to buy a newer modern action, not an old mil surplus rifle. Night and day what one can do versus the other.

I'd go for .25-06 if mostly for varmints. (87 gr or similar) then in deer season something like 120gr Nosler partitions

Can't go wrong with either and everyone has made excellent arguments for both cartridges. The only real advantage the 25-06 has is it chambered in a wider selection of factory offerings, ballistically the 25-06 also has a slight advantage with same weight bullets, but the Swede has a better selection of bullet weights, and a certain amount of panache and class so that is the way I would go for sure.
