6.6x55 swede or 25/06?

No brainer really, buy both cos they are both excellent cartridges in their own right. Lots of good guns available in 6.5, and its got the legs to go a long long way - I've seen it reach out to 1400 no problems. And a 25.06 is so cool as well, but I wouldn't expect it to work quite as far as the 6.5. And I've used and seen lots. Both excellent choices, just buy both to fill up the gun case

I think you are onto something here. I have a Sako AV 25-06 that has never shot consistently and I've tried many bullet and powder combinations.
 
Of the two - I would take a .25-06 over the swede (personal preference). Personally I think a 7x57, 8x57, .308, .30-06, 7-08 (something in the 7 - 8mm bore range....) would fill the gap between the .243 and .338 mag much better than the two choices you've asked about (big enough for big game, with less recoil and cost than the .338).
 
Got Both, can't go wrong with either. Would like to say though that my 25-06 in a ruger 77 mark II shoots great with a bunch of different factory ammo and bullet weights! Maybe I just got lucky.
 
as far as the quarter bores not being accurate.i have owned several and each one shot superbly right out of the box
the one was a rem 700 bdl late 80 model other members at the gun range would bet me some $$$ that I couldn't hit a quarter taped to the target at 200 yrds
those were the days when I had much younger eyes and shot a lot
A bushnell 4x12 40 ,the trigger lighten up by me and 120 speer btsp with 52 grains of imr 4831 ,old imperial 30-06 cases ncked down to 25 cal,c.o.l. right on the lands made me a few bucks
it had taken elk, moose, deer, antelope, sheep, bear, coyotes, gophers, bathhusrt cariboo,that gun was deadly nothing was safe
Had 6.5x55 ,260,6.5 cm they are all accurate just takes some work some times to find the right combination of components
 
FWIW...my .02 rounded up to a nickel....of the two you listed..6.5x55 for sure. I've owned a dozen or more in my lifetime...currently have a new Tikka T3 Forest in the same cal. I've loaded down with the 120 grainers for deer and so my daughter can use it, but it has a w i d e range of bullets available for it.

Iam currently trying to decide between the two in a new Tikka T3x ,just can’t decide, I already have both chamberings in Ruger#1’s but I have the itch to buy a new bolt gun.

I no longer use either, but have killed a fair number with both cartridges. Game can tell little difference with one over the other. The biggest draw back on both was never power but bullet construction. Some came apart on the outside (Hornady in the 25) and in the 6.5 I had them pass through with not opening at all(Norma). Use w well built bullet hunting and you will be happy. If I had to vote it would be the 25 because it shot more coyotes.
