Since I decided to put my 700P 6.8mm up for sale I have got a lot of PM's about it and the round. It seems like there's a lot of us hanging out in the closet with this "6.8 what ?" round. Since this round is coming on a couple years old, it's time to share info.

Who all is shooting this in Bolt guns out there and how are you liking it? Maybe share some of your 6.8 myth breakers. ie: drops dead out of the air at 350m..

My pet load for my rifle is 110gr Sierra Spitzers over 27.5gr of H322. I've only taken it to 550m (my range out back) and can hold under MOA a that range all day. I've used it to play tag with coyotes and they love it.

Until I got my new rifle I was obsessed with this round. It's very versatile (90gr-130gr rnds). It's nice having a ready supply of light fast varmint bullets and heavy pounding deer rounds. As much as I love it, I'm shooting carbine and .308 too much and I need to start consolidating calibers. I'm getting my ass kicked with the reloading.

Since I don't have a 1000m range in the area, the 6.8 is tailor made for here. Fits that short-med range niche that 90% of shooting is done at.

I've got rounds worked up from 90-130gr's and will post recipes once my gun room gets over it's reno.

Where is that hiding under the chair icon :D
I got myself the 26 inch heavy fluted 700P model over a year ago. The caliber is so easy to tune the loads and get something shooting ragged little holes in a try or two. I have been using 90 grain tnt's over V133 with amazing results out to 600 yards. I dropped out the factory trigger prior to shooting the rifle the first time, mounted Leupold Qrw bases and Prw rings with a weaver T36 scope. No other mods neccessary to have a sub moa rifle on the bags.
Pictures will follow.

I'm loading 115gr Sierra matchkings with 22.5 IMR4198,just going to try some
110gr hollowpoints for Coyotes to see how these work.

Nothing wrong with the cartridge, it's just the availability of excellent .277 bullets that sucks.

Long range precision shooters go for muzzle velocity and maximum BC; this cartrige optimizes neither, so it is a better short range cartridge.

I don't know.. I'd say that a 110gr VMAX with BC 0.362 @ 2930fps is a little better than short range, and quite speedy. Again, not tailored for 1000m's by far, but hardly limited to "short range".

But of course everybody on this site only shoots 1/4MOA to +1000m with their stock .308 12FV. Our little light .270's break the laws of man and nature. :D

.362 is a mediocre BC in the long range game. 6mm bullets (105-108) have G1 form factor ballistic coefficients of more than .500. 6.5's are more than .600 and both do the same velocity; the 6BR does so with only 30 grains of powder.

The cartridge was introduced as a heavier hitting AR-deliverable military round. Any cartridge can and will hit long range targets with precision under ideal conditions. You will have a helluva struggle in less than ideal conditions.

If you quantitatively compare the ballistics of the best bullets deliverable by the 6.8 SPC against top .224, .243. 264 and .284 bullets and cartridges, you will see what I mean.

Again.. not a long range round. Think that was covered. Apples to Oranges. I almost always shoot in "less than ideal conditions", never had a problem putting lead where the meat is.. or paper is. Never had a helluva struggle. I know my rifle and my loads. Nice days are for going to the beach with the kids. s**tty days are for warming up with a rifle.

This thread was intended for 6.8 shooters to express their opinions, not the mob to panic that others are enjoying something they're not. But if you want to talk about the best of my .338 vs the best .22lr out there we can too. But that'd just be asinine, right. ;)

I shoot .223, .308, 6BR and .338 in bolt guns too.. But this post is about them Oranges. Thanks for the refresher though.
