I know remington made them in a model seven for a bit, and Ruger made them in a compact, but I am curious how many of these made it to Canada.

I have the Mini-14 in 6.8, and love the round, but I am coming to terms with my 'fuddyness' and realizing that a bolt action sporter does much more for me than a semi auto.

Kinda hoping to get myself a bolt action in this round, without involving a gunsmith.

There has been a Rem 700 Police model in 6.8SPC for sale on the EE for a while now not sure if it has sold yet or not.

If it was a Model 7 I would have snapped it up.

While not a bolt gun I have a single shot 23" Contender carbine barrel in 6.8spc worked up a load for it with AA2200/95gr TTSX = 1/2" 3 shot 100 yard groups haven't had a chance to chrono it yet but it should be doing close to 2850fps.

I'm using it when I'm hunting for coastal blacktail deer this fall.

I like it so much I am now starting to think about selling my RA XCR-L...

Why 6.8

I understand that the 6.8 was designed as an improvement over the 5.56 NATO, and was constrained by the requirement of fitting into the M16/M4 magazine.

It seems to me that the 6.8 is inferior to the 6.5 Grendal, in terms of working in a semi or full auto rifle. And both these rounds are utterly inferior in comparison to the 260 Remington in a bolt gun.

My question is, why bother with the 6.8 for either a semi or a bolt gun? Go with the Grendal or the 260, I say.

Everyone has an opinion and it's definitely neat...

The 6.8SPC is the marriage of two of N America's most popular hunting rounds the 30-30 and 270 Win.

The parent case is a slightly shortened 30 Rem = a rimless 30-30 & 6.8mm = 270 cal...

Who gives a schit if the grendel is better or not or if a 260 Rem gives more performance?

Did you think that maybe it is a perfect hunting round for those of us that actually understand what it is capable of?

I have rifles chambered in hunting cartridges from 223/6mm-284/30-06/300RUM/375RUM/45-70 and many more in between they all have a place and right now the 6.8spc's place is at the top of the list for hunting coastal blacktail deer.

and I have zero interest in a 6.5 Grendel or a 260 Rem... :D

I have the exact same Mini in 6.8, "Brobeeized". If yours shoots as good as mine, I'm not sure why your looking for a bolt gun. Mine shot a 6" group at 250 yards, with hand loads, first time out. That's plenty good for hunting, especially in a rifle that people like to bash for it's accuracy. ;)
