6 hunters mistakenly shot as deer hunting season begins, idiots among us

this is one of the worst years yet ive seen,i guess a lot of people are buying there liceneces .im stuck at work for now but am maybe deciding to pass gun season this year.just goes to show that something is definatly wrong going on.im not going to risk it as i hunt on public land.

This is just craziness. That's a way higher number of "incidents" than any year I can remember. I wonder if the information behind how these accidents happened will ever be released? Its frightening to hear about this stuff. I wonder if it has to do with more and more hunters crowded into smaller parcels of land due to an ever increasing number of "no hunting" properties? I know in our area, every year, there is less and less property that is available to be hunted. It's to the point now where I really don't care much about hunting in the regular rifle season here, I would much rather wait for a later season, (Manitoulin) where we can hunt our own property, and basically don't have to worry about strangers on our property.

Once again proving - Only the Police and the Military should have firearms.

"New York City police wound two bystanders in Times Square shooting incident
By Philip Guelpa
17 September 2013
In the latest example of wanton disregard for public safety by the New York Police Department (NYPD), two bystanders were shot near Times Square in Manhattan as officers fired their weapons at a 35-year-old man who was wandering in traffic. Reports indicate that the man appeared to be mentally impaired and may have intentionally been attempting to be struck by a vehicle. Some witnesses indicate that he had actually been hit several times."
Yep

Years ago I worked as a guide for a whitetail outfitter in Alberta, I'd check the clients rifles every now and then after the rifles were racked at the end of the day and many times I found loaded rifles, some with the safeties off. Most all the the clients were educated, well to do city dwellers...IMHO, intelligents doesn't have much to do with these type of accidents.

This got me thinking... those idiots that shoot at movement or sound are probably hunting in a group with idiots just like themselves. They wouldn't last a day in a group that isn't made up solely of hillbillies, because no one in their right mind would ever risk hunting with them. I think all they're doing is shooting one another and they think that its all part of deer hunting, otherwise there would have been at least one case where charges were laid. If I were shot by someone, I'd have no problem having them charged. Might lose a good friend by doing so, but I don't think I'd be able to get over the fact that my 17 year old kid just got shot by someone in our hunting party like the example above. Thats just negligent.

No charges??? Wtf... At the very least there should be charges under the firearms act.... People who shoot people, accident or not... Should not be allowed to carry a firearm in my books, let alone have a hunting liscence LOL

....and you are how old???

I didn't know there was an age limit to post in the hunting forum. How old am I supposed to be, 40? 50? Older than that?

Never did hear what was done about the London cop that was running through a residential neighbourhood discharging his firearm for no apparent reason.

Me neither. I did hear that no one was accidently shot, even in a high population area compared to the wilderness during hunting though.

Well bears look like bears, deer look like deer, people look like people. Something terribly wrong if those can be confused. Aren't you supposed to be aiming at vital areas, that requres identifying what part of the animal your looking at, and by that time you should be able to make out that your not aiming at any part of an animal at all.

It's bad enough when the people mix up mule/white tail, spike/antlerless, 3/4 curl-11/16curl but when you mix up an animal to a human carrying a gun, wearing orange.... You are just toooooooo effin dumb to breath my air.

That pretty much sums it up

i think drinking is the number one problem with "accidental shootings" going along hunting roads i cant help but notice an alarming amount of beer cans on the side of the road.
