I was the Technical Director of a small ammo company making ammo for military, police forces and target shooters.

I also did some consulting work with various ammo and rifle manufacturers. This particular drum of powder was part of an experiment. That is why it is called 4896. It was a modification of 4895. I did not have to pay for the experimental powders.

There was about 1200 pounds of it. Most of it got used.

When powder is sold to ammo companies, it comes in similar drums, filled with 20 kgs (45 pounds). These are not canister powders. They are typically a bit faster or slower than what you buy in the store. And there are powders for which there is no canister equivalent.

When it is part of an experiment, it goes in whatever sized drum suitable for the job. I have powder stored in the large 25 liter spring water jugs. They are perfect.
