I’m looking for opinions on a new scope for a cz 452 varmint. This rifle will be used for bench rest shooting out to about 125 yards but most be able to also handle silhouette at 20 yards.

One option I’d really like is a side adjustable parallax but I’m only able to find it right now on scopes starting at about 1k.

So the scope must have a minimum variability of 6 at maximum. I’d like a 4x for shooting offhand and I’m willing to sacrifice a little top end magnification for that. My shooting is done almost exclusively in the middle of the day so a huge objective isn’t necessary. In fact I’ve been looking at 40mm because it will mount with the rings and bases I’m going to be using.

So I’m open to opinions but right now I’m looking at

1. Leupold VXII 6-18 X 40mm target (I put another thread up to find out how close the parallax adjustment is)
2. Bushnell 4200 elite in either 4-16 or 6-24
3. Nikon buckmaster 4.5-14 or 6-18

maybe I should change what I said to adjustable objective. I've always refered to it as parallax adjustment.

Don't both those things do the same thing...an adjustable objective lens corrects for paralax, does it not?

I have the Nikon Buckmasters in 6-18x40. It has semi-target style turrets and a side paralax adjustment knob. I like the side adjustment because it's easier to reach and the lid on BC flip up scope covers don't get in the way like they do when you have to turn a ring on the objective end of the scope to adjust for paralax. It's a great scope, and can be bought for around $460 in Canada, or around $250 in the US. (Must be the exchange rate...guess which country I bought mine in?)

I think you will need one of the Leupold "EFR" scopes for the ranges you want to use it...

I also thoguht it was correcting for parallax. I just noticed most of the web sites list this feature as adjustable objective.

I think I'm going to have a better look at the nikon. I was leaning toward the leupold at first but the side adjustment is nice.

After two or three weeks, I have had two enquiries as to where I got the Picatinny Rail.
The info is pasted for everybody. I do not know the cost.

I have a rail on my 452 Varmint and a 12X Leopold with an adjustable objective.

Elite 4200 Side Focus 6X24 w/mil dots 1" tube. I have used this scope and am very impressed. Same body size as the 2.5X10 - 40mm so not overly large. Mechanicals and optics of the larger target scope. I think ideal for your application. Those mil dots will come in very handy for doping winds. I love them

I have also used a Nikon Buckmaster side focus 4X14 w/mildots. Again, a superb scope. More elevation adjustment (not that you will need it) but a smaller apparent field of view. Similar in size so a nice fit on your rifle. The 6x18 is also a nice scope.

For the money, these two are very hard to beat.

I like the Leupold 3-9X33 A/O EFR
This is a nice rimfire scope that would work great for target shooting. 45Auto has one for sale that is as new. They are a 600.00 scope. Try him see what he has to say.
Another one that would work well would be a VXII 4-12x40A/O Fine Duplex. I have this scope on a .243 Model 700 Mountain Rifle. Really nice scope. In my opinion? You would not need any more Magnification for a .22Lr
The 4-12x40 A/O Fine duplex is nice for shooting little critters and punching holes in paper. That would probably be my choice if I was going to keep it under 600.00. Some of the Older T- Weaver scopes would work fine as well. you should be able to find a nice scope on this CGN Optics section for sure. I hope this helps! Tikka.

Nothing like hi power for BR I would get a Weaver 36X BR scope. Straight cross hair, adjustable objective for parallax, 1/8" clicks. Around $400 US. PM me if you want one.

Scope for a 452

I would look at a second hand Leupold VARIX III 4.5-14 x4o AO. They are only 12.5" long, are light and have a small occular bell for lots of clearance for the bolt handle. I have two, one on a SAKO 7mm Mag, and a tactical moder with target turrents for a future target gun. The AO is nice, you can get a crisp picture at whatever range you are shooting at. I use the 14 power for sighting in the gun. For hunting, the 4.5 setting is nice for moving targets.

Also, lifetime warranty in Canada.

Browning perhaps?

There are some great buys on clearance Browning scopes in various parts of the country. P&D in Edmonton have the 5-15x40 AO on sale for $229.00. with 3-9x50's available shortly. Costco has 4-12x40 AO on their web site for $225.00.
Some of your original choices seem like over kill to me on a sporter rimfire, IMHO,FS
