I know it's not in the same league, but I have often dreamed about getting a Ruger #1 in .458 Lott. That's some gun, a 500 grain bullet at an honest 2300 fps, smokin! but what the hay would I use it for, is there a range with a template for it in Nova Scotia?

If you really want ones of these things you wouldn't have to go the double rifle route. There have been .600's successfully built on Ruger #1's then your only problem is a supply of brass. Factory ammo is way beyond unreasonable - north of $200.00 USD for a 5 pack.

I have a 450 ackley Tony, you can try that if you're ever out here in god's country. I'm working on a 475 Ackley, never know when those pesky dinosaurs will make a come back. There's a group of big bore shooters that get together out here, they were in Rocky Mountain House this year, lot's of big toys to gladden the heart. I missed it, unfortunately, but hope to make the next one. Gotta love a get together where the 375 H&H is the baby of the group. We also do the 50 BMG shoot here every summer, that's a fair bit of fun as well. - dan

I passed up on a used 600NE a few years ago... the gun was nice and heavy, but the cheapest ammo I could locate was about $80 a round... too rich for me!

Actually, I've seen a fair number of these built on magnum CZ Mauser actions and Ruger No.1 actions. the Rugers can look very nice indeed, especially if you color case harden the receiver.

That being said, ammo costs are.... prohibitive.
