I picked up the same (1950's) gun with the same sights. I thought the Lyman peep was aftermarket, but maybe not by the look of it....
First cleaning completed. I sprayed all the moving parts with G96, cleaned the dust and oiled the rest. Action is already smoother and it's pretty again!

They were aftermarket, but obviously because of the popularity the rifles were factory pre-drilled for them. Probably both - yours and mine are 50's era correct sights.
Thanks Guys. Barrel was full of dust and some spider webs and you can see a small surface rust at the muzzle. I used a bore snake and oil and it's all shiny now.
May take it to gunsmith for complete disassembly, but I feel lucky![]()
That's better! I found a similar one last year for my son... a 56' with under one box through it... it came with a box of Winchester shells with eleven missing from the original owner... I paid $600 and did so happily... told my son to keep it forever and start racking up the round count... guns is fur shootin'!
YesWow very nice.![]()
