61 years old Winchester 94...

I picked up the same (1950's) gun with the same sights. I thought the Lyman peep was aftermarket, but maybe not by the look of it....

They were aftermarket, but obviously because of the popularity the rifles were factory pre-drilled for them. Probably both - yours and mine are 50's era correct sights.
Thanks Guys. Barrel was full of dust and some spider webs and you can see a small surface rust at the muzzle. I used a bore snake and oil and it's all shiny now.
May take it to gunsmith for complete disassembly, but I feel lucky :)

I wouldn't even want to touch those screws with a screw driver! Unless you have to 'course. You don't find them that close to new too often I'd give it a good cleaning and some G 96 on every moving thing you can see and load it up and shoot it chances are a long ways in your favour it will load cycle feed and fire perfectly :) nice score

I already tested it for function with the snap caps. Works well and the lever is still stiff like on a factory new rifle. Strange perspective to have - break-up period on the 61 years old rifle.
However the rumors are true - these older Winchesters were made better. Cleaning time ahead. No, I won't try to disassemble it myself. I have no skills or knowledge to do it.

First cleaning completed. I sprayed all the moving parts with G96, cleaned the dust and oiled the rest. Action is already smoother and it's pretty again!

That's better! I found a similar one last year for my son... a 56' with under one box through it... it came with a box of Winchester shells with eleven missing from the original owner... I paid $600 and did so happily... told my son to keep it forever and start racking up the round count... guns is fur shootin'!

No need to take it apart, I wouldn't think. All that will do is bugger up perfect screwheads and maybe scratch the finish here and there. The gun will work fine. Unless a 94 has worn or broken parts I don't ever advise disassembly. They can be cleaned and lubricated easily with aerosols. I would drift the rear sight out and put a 3/8 blank in the dovetail or if you like the buckhorn sight remove the peep.

Wow! Sounds like there are more of the lucky ones out there :) Congratulations to both of you.
