They were aftermarket, but obviously because of the popularity the rifles were factory pre-drilled for them. Probably both - yours and mine are 50's era correct sights.
Thanks Guys. Barrel was full of dust and some spider webs and you can see a small surface rust at the muzzle. I used a bore snake and oil and it's all shiny now.
May take it to gunsmith for complete disassembly, but I feel lucky

No need to take it apart, I wouldn't think. All that will do is bugger up perfect screwheads and maybe scratch the finish here and there. The gun will work fine. Unless a 94 has worn or broken parts I don't ever advise disassembly. They can be cleaned and lubricated easily with aerosols. I would drift the rear sight out and put a 3/8 blank in the dovetail or if you like the buckhorn sight remove the peep.

If you put a buckhorn back on, you'll have to change the front sight as well. I tried it and it put out a great group at 100 yards, but it was a foot high and I can't put the rear sight any lower. JUst an FYI.

They started factory drilling for the receiver sight in 1950 around the same time they started using the shorter forearm on the 94 carbine.

Very close to the same shape but bluing a tad more faded.
