I have a smoothbore musket as named in the title and have been casting .600 balls for it. However they are very tight and require to be shoved hard into the barrel. This is without patches, just the ball over some wadding. I need to downsize the ball a bit. I was thinking .580 would be a good start. I am looking for a bit of windage but not a whole lot. I just want to speed up loading and make it easier to remove a ball if something goes wrong. Now my first question is, If .600 is snug tight would .580 be enough difference? Second question is. Where can I find a .580 ball mold? Been scouring Ebay and Track of the wolf with no luck. I was hoping to avoid the $100 aluminum block molds. Right now the .600 mold I am using is the old fashion steel one from Track of the wolf.
