I have searched past threads but could not find anything exactly similar. Looking at a sporting clays and trap gun and down to these two. Both seem to fit and fell about the same for me.

Cynergy is the higher price point but what the better gun for
-Overall quality and durability as a sporting gun (lots of rounds)
-Features and finish
-Resale value
(in your opinion)

Both are decent lower-priced O/U's.

For those that shoot a lot, it enevitably comes down to fit, feel & balance. If you have enough shooting behind you to really KNOW what fits you, ( as opposed to "she really comes up nice" ... whatever the hell that means ) choose either one - they'll both last an average guy a virtual lifetime of shooting.

From my own perspective, it is not at all uncommon for the Beretta 68x series of guns to go thousands, even several hundred thousand rounds. Many get good service from their Citori's as well. I'm not at all keen on the Cynergy's "avant garde" styling either, but that's a matter of personal choice. I've kept a close eye on what I see at the Sporting, 5-Stand & FITASC shoots round and about..... very few Cynergy's ! Lots more Browning 425, 525, 625 and XS Specials. For the same money, I'd far prefer one of the Citori "25-series" Sporters, or a Grand Prix Sporter.

Other than the Silver Pigeon II Sporter, there isn't much to choose from in Beretta's line between the 686E and the 682 GoldE at about $1500 more.

The "better" gun" is the one that fits you best, that you like, have confidence in and that you can shoot the best that your abilities will allow you to.

Never "cut & dried" is it ? ;)

Re: 686E vs Cynergy

Both seen to fit and feel about the same for me.

The Cynergy is a little heavier and has different stock dimensions than the 686E, so if you spend a little time with each you should be able to perceive a difference. Some people prefer the Browning measurements and others feel more at home with the Beretta dimensions, so take your time, get thoroughly acquainted with each, and pick the one you feel most comfortable with.

Both are available with an adjustable comb, which I view as a distinct advantage - try and find one of the adjustable models. However, the Cynergy adjustable stock adds about 12 ounces to the weight of the gun, while the Beretta system adds only a couple of ounces.

The Cynergy comes with ported barrels, which I find annoying (noisy) but others like.

The 686 has 3 inch chambers while the Cynergy Classic Sporting has 2 3/4 inch. Not at all important for shooting clays, but if the gun has to do double duty on a duck or goose hunt then the option is there.

As for resale value, I don't know much about price, but I do believe that the more familiar, more proven design of the Beretta is easier to sell. It's not that the Browning is worse, but it is a very different and newer design. By and large, gun buyers are a conservative lot (no political double entendre intended).

There are many other significant differences between the two guns, from the firing pin system to the bore diameters, but ultimately you can expect either to be quality, long lasting product. The devil is in the details, though. Take your time, examine each gun carefully, ask lots of questions and trust your gut feelings.

Thanks for the input guys - very much appreciated! Still wrestling with this one and have now thrown the Fabarm Axis Sporting into the mix. Search continues....

I have had a couple of Cynergy's and never licked the fit as for the 686 never had a E sporting but have had to many 686 to count right now I am using a 686 Silver Pigeon S at the range and also for ducks/geese going to start using my SV-10 with Kick off this duck season I think but I just got a new Beretta 471 SilverHawk SXS that I may have to take out also a time or two.
The big thing I always look at is the service you are offered,I have found with the beretta they do know how to take care of their customers.I have a close friend that had a issue with his Browning O/U that he had for only 6 weeks and it took almost 4 months to get the gun back to him, after a big fight about the problem.

As for resale I know it is alot easier to sell a used Beretta O/U over a used Browning O/U.
And Just Like Beretta Boy said (The "better" gun" is the one that fits you best, that you like, have confidence in and that you can shoot the best that your abilities will allow you to)

Please keep in mind these are only personal thoughts

For my sins I have both, and there is little in it between the two.

Which fits you best is the deciding factor. The build quality of the two are very similar, in fact I would say identical. I use the Beretta for game and the Browning for clays, both are multichoked.

Long term I think the Beretta may possibly have the edge, but that will be more down to shell count than engineering.

Nice decision to make, you cannot go wrong!

Thanks very much guys. Great to know I'm not totally off with a decision on these two. I did get a chance to hold both again and the 686 is gaining ground with me. Although the Cynergy is walnut, something does not feel as nice - almost like a plastic feel on the forend.
