686 vs gp100 price difference

I was advised to go Smith all the way. The Ruger's are okay but the trigger is not that great. So my question is there much to getting them triggers a little better? Just some polishing?

I have the Double Action Revolver Book by Iowegan, gunsmithing guru at the Rugerforum.net. He was selling them a while back but haven't seen any listed at that forum anymore, I could be mistaken.

Just for the record- Ruger GP100 is an extremely accurate revolver. Shoots like a laser beam.

I wanted to clarify that, as others have mentioned it to be more of a service revolver, and Smith to be target revolver.

I would not bet the farm that Smith is any more accurate than Ruger.

Some people may find Smith more refined and less beefy looking than Ruger... some like tough and heavy look of Ruger.

Also... putting Ruger and Norinco in the same sentence is an illegal act. Careful! ;)

:rey2 :agree:

That is very bold. To put Chinese reproduction discount knockoff firearms in the same sentence as a NA build pitbull......cp:

The GP looks better, I think its in the design of the grip. The GP has good weight to it, where you aim is where it is going to hit. As for the trigger complaints, I shot both, couldnt feel any difference in DA or SA. Im no pro so take it for what its worth.

So torn on this one, I can't afford the s&w so I may get the ruger. How is the ruger gp100 in 6" stainless?

I just saw a nice 19 on the EE for $500ish. If you can afford a Ruger, you can afford a Smith.

I have both, and must say that the GP100 is a pretty good deal, but it's no Smith.

I posed the question to our friends south of the border to see there opinions. The MAJORITY concensus was hold out for a 686. By far a superior handgun. Well I did not hold out or have to wait very long. I found a slightly used one which should be in my hands Tuesday.

Thank you to whomever traded it in at P&D................ ;^)

I received my 2nd hand GP100 in 4.2" earlier last week. Haven't got a chance to shoot it yet, but I bought these compact grips from the states for it and let me tell you I am already totally in love with this gun. Mind you I've shot my buddy's on several occasions, and I already know this thing will be a lazer accurate tank of a gun.

Just sayin'

50 rounds of Winchester USA .38 Special, 150 grain, lead round nose @ an advertised 845 FPS and 50 rounds of Winchester USA .357 Magnum, 110 grain, semi-jacketed hollow point @ an advertised 1295 FPS. 7 yards, indoors, offhand, double action.

Here's the aftermath with the .357 cartridges:
