69 gr. for .223

I have a Savage 12 BVSS in .223, with a 1 in 9 twist. I was going to start loading 52 grain bullets, but someone that is a good bench shooter recommended something heavier. Anyone out there shoot 69 gr bullets in there 1 in 9 twist 223? Or is there one that works better for you?

What distance will you be shooting? The 69gr SMKs will give you an advantage at longer ranges. Closer in, the lighter bullets are just fine.
 
sierra 69 grain match kings using N540 powder works for me in a 9 twist, I seat the bullets with a 10 thou jump, weight sorted winchester brass.
 
I have quite successfully shot 52 grain match bullets in my 1:9 twist .223; very accurate. I have also shot the 69 grain bullets, but those are reserved for longer range (300+ metres). I have always found it to be a bit of a myth that tight twist cannot shoot light bullets. If the bore is good, and bullets are good, there has never been a problem in my experience.
 
I haven't tried them yet in mine but will be. I think the 68gr Hornady HPBT has a higher BC than the SMK and I'll be checking those out as well.
 
I reload and have tested a great deal of different manufacturers products and weights. The 69 gr smks pushed by 22.3 gr. IMR 3031 or 25 gr. Varget are an absolute dynamo in my Savage bvss , 1-9 twist. I have not found any other that shoot the way these marvels do.
 
My Savage 12FV shoots the 45 gr Winchester JHP like a hot damn, but my best round in the 69 gr Sierra Match handloaded with Varget (can't remember the weight offhand, 20.6 gr comes to miond though)

That load works in my Savage, my Mini14 target, my AR, and 3 of my buddy's .223s, all with exceptional accuracy.
 
I've shot 1000s of 69g SMK and Lapua Scenar both with Varget and I had very good result out of my Cz-527 KV 1/9 twist.

I had a group of five shot in 3 3/8" @ 700y with the Scenar and I believe SMK will do the same. but lately I had some problem with differant batch of Scenar 69g.

I will now try the Berger 70g VLD they claimed a BC higher than the 2 other ones.

and I will try Win748 powder, I should get a bit more speed according to quickload.

i loaded up some 69 grain sierra HPBT last weekend for my stevens 200 and with a clean barrel i was shooting .5 moa at 100 yards.
one group was a three shot ragged hole!
accuracy started to wane a little after about 60 or so rounds without cleaning.
i was very impressed.
69 gr sierra HPBT 25 grains varget regular small rifle primers
 
I got a 12 fvss. it really likes federals factory load with 69 gr SMK. My load is 70gr berger over 24gr of varget = Sub MOA

I'm not even going to read all the posts.

The 69 grain Sierra Match King has given me the best groups in two 1 in 9 twist .223's. Some were close, nothing was better.
