6BR - average group size @ 500 yrds.

Jerry is right...at 500 yards that is not vertical stringing, that is a great group. BUT if you see some actual vertical stringing (the groups, windage wise are close, but spread VERTICALLY across the target) it is commonly caused by velocity variances within a given load...yes it is caused by other things but when I have seen inconsistent velocity, the most common result for me at longer ranges has been vertical stringing.

Now to be able to shoot groups like that commonly, certainly seems like the rifle is up to the task, well done.

Hey chevy, how about a picture of the "rig" that shot that group. :)

The only change to the rifle since the pics is the scope - now wearing a Sightron III 8-32x56 which is what was used for the 500 yrd groups:)
Its a sweet scope:D

Oh, by the way, its official. I will be attending my first long range shoot on Oct. 2 & 3 - "Frost on the Pumpkin" match at the Homestead Range:D
Thanks to Ian (Obtunded) for giving me the information and offering his experience to help out a newbie like myself during the shoot :D:D

Chevy, you could come out to Nokomis Sept 4-6 too and get some practice in.... 300M, 500 yd, 600 yd, 900 yd Saturday and 500, 600, 900 and 1000 on Sunday. Monday is team shooting at 600 & 900 yds. Team shooting is were you get coached by a wind coach and your only job is pulling the trigger, giving the coach a perfect shot. You may need the practice with the Kamloops boys, they shoot pretty good out there LOL. Marc and Rich are hot lately and Frank O. is on fire lately too.

Nokomis is on a few hours from you, come on out man!

Well I'm gad I had my "attends" on reading this last post, as I just p_ssed myself - I get over excited some times:D I'd love to get some practice in:)

Kodiak99317 AKA Keith?, I was planning on looking you up later but sooner is much better. I will PM you to get more specifics on this shoot you have going on.
Thanks for the information.

Not much else to say except the PPRA is always 2+10 at all the yardages.
AbbeyHill, a lady TR shooter is coming out from Ontarible for it too and she wants to talk about setting up a real long range match/program, using the 1000, 1100 and 1200 yds berms, so the only other thing to say is bring lots of AMMO gus we may just step on back after each day and have our own LR 2+10's at 10,11 and 12 too... that's only another 36 rounds LOL. Total round count for PPRA is 40 for score in target plus 8 sights on Saturday, same on Sunday and Monday is theteam and that's 2+10 at 6 & 9 so another 24... total is 48+48+24=120 plus say 40 more if we can go LONG long.

Chevy question

for you.

Did we LOSE you to the DARK SIDE?

Looks like you appear to prefer the long range versus short range. Just curious?

Regardless that is MIGHTY FINE groups.

Calvin

Some of the best F-Class shooters I know shoot - or have shot - both Benchrest and F-Class. I think they complement each other very nicely.

Denis Lapierre is almost unbeatable.

I am really hoping to get a BR shoot started in BC/Kamloops

Denis was almost unbeatable in BR as well! A fierce competitor!

It would be nice to have a benchrest shoot in B.C. again. There hasn't been any registered shoots in B.C. since Clearwater in the 80's

Hi Calvin, AKA, Obi-Wan Kenobi:p
I love pulling the trigger, whether its short, medium or long range:D
Competitively, long range is more appealing to me as I just so happen to have a rifle that is designed for specifically that, just have to find out if I am:eek:
Don't give up on me Obi-Wan, I hope to run into you next year with something more competitive than my Fireball and 204:redface:
Till then, may the force be with you and all your bullets share the same hole:)

"...finally loaded up some 105 gr. target Bergers for my 6BR..." Did you work up the load or just guess?
"...no idea what to look for in regards to tuning?..." That'd be one you worked up for your rifle. Mind you, if that is a 500, you're done.
"...I love pulling the trigger, whether its short, medium or long range..." Couldn't agree more. Have yet to do any kind of shooting game, handgun or rifle, that isn't fun. Not particularly great at any of 'em and don't care. Competitive shooting, of any kind, is far too much fun to care about placing. Must admit that plates or pins are a favourite though.

Sunray, my load was created by shooting forums from 6mmbr.com and this one. Gathered a wack load of data and went with the average to produce the load :D
Considering my results where from my first loads I've come to the conclusion that some tweaking should make it better. I could try a neck sizing bushing one thou smaller or larger, play around with the seating depth, etc. but I think I will spend my time seeing if I as a shooter can be as consistant as my rifle. I'm off to shoot prone for the first time in my life:eek: and its windy to boot - should make for a very interesting day:)

6mmBR is so easy to load for. And where-ever you got those VLDs with the BC of 532 go buy em out. You can't get the VLD with that BC anymore. The new ones are 493. I bought a pile of em when they were 560, those are long gone now.
If you can't get the same VLDs look for the hunting VLD, they are 532 still or Lapua Scenar which are 530.

MagnumPeanut, thanks for the advice. He had more, I purchased what he had - 9 boxes in total :D
Does Berger still make the hunting bullet in .532 BC or are they discontinued as well? I shot some of those today and seem to be as accurate as the target VLD's:eek:
Thanks

The Hunting in 532 are still available. I am using them now, I like them a lot.

Jo-Brooks just got a pile in and the BC on the VLDs were 493 and the hunting are 532, YES!!!

These bullets are identical to the old .532 VLD's with t he normal thickness jackets - except more consistent. It is my 6mmBR bullet for sure.

I have 800 of the new faux-VLD's collecting dust. They're crap.
