6br savage 12lrpv

After trying the 6br i have to buy one !!

So, i have looked for the savage 12 LRPV who have some nice features for the price.

My only question is with the 1 in 12 twist rate do i will able to stabilize the heavier bullets and get the full potential of the 6br for long range shooting ?

I think a good bullets will be the berger 80 gr for this twist but i have not enought experience with the 6br.

I envisage to put a Near Base and rings + a Sightron 8-32 x 56 from Mystic who have answered all of my questions.

What do you think of this package guys ?
Any suggestions are welcome.
 
Yeah, unfortunately the 12" twist is too slow for the heavy bullets. It is a varmint gun and varmint hunters trade BC for velocity. It is a very nice rig though. The Savage 12 F-Class rifle has an 8" twist as does their Benchrest model.

Because I shoot f-class (prone) the dual port is of no use to me, but for strictly fast bench type shooting it is ok. If it is a must-have, you are excluding some darned good choices. The Savage 6BR's are a terrific, accurate rifle.

Yeah, i have a tough time to choose beetween the dual port 1 in 12 or the
1 in 8 twist but the only dealers i have found have just the dual port config.

Can i expect to have the accuracy much reduce with the 80gr bullets versus the 105 to the 600 yards line ?

Very happy to hear good comment on the LRPV coming from you, its just confirm my purcharse :)

I have try the 6br of DESO a cgn member who have purchase a krieger barrel
from you and i never see something accurate like that, very scary !!

With a tuned load, the lighter bullets will be just as accurate, it is just that they are affected a great deal more by wind, so you must work a bit harder to keep them in the middle:)

DESO has some very nice stuff and his 6BR's are beautiful! The 6BR is a fantastic cartridge and it is easy to make work. the LRPV and F-Class Rifles are an excellent way to get that accuracy without having to go all custom. ...you can add a Krieger barrel later ;)
 
Yeah after two customs this year i cant go with another one :runaway:

I will give a try to the LRPV and see if i can outshoot my .308 custom.

What do you think of the dual port action ? Many opinion on this one but i have read from savage that the dual port have more steel than a repeater action of the 12f series.

And yeah DESO have some very nice rifle !!
Because of him my .308w will be in 6.5x47 Lapua when my barrel will be burn.
This catridge fit perfectly in a AI mag.

Charles - I just got a Savage 6mmBR Norma in the 1:12 twist. So new I have not even fired it yet. I did a lot of research on the twist and I think the 1:12 will be a good middle of the road twist to play with.

And what the heck, the action is bullet proof, so if after a while I want to go with the really heavy bullets and concentrate JUST on long range then I'll re-barrel and go for a twist that will work with whatever bullet I decide to use.

I don't think you can go wrong with the gun. Good choice.

As I said, the dual port is designed for a benchrest configuration where you are using a pedestal rest and free-recoil shooting. You #### & pull with one hand and feed with the other.

When shooting prone, unless you like arching your back with no hands on the ground while you work both sides of the port, a dual port is kinda useless - in my mind.

The optimum arrangement in my mind is a right hand shooter using a left-handed action, where your trigger finger and eye never leave their position, and the action is cycled by your free non-dominant hand.

Lefties have it made.

I have never try to shoot with a left handed action, this is on my list to try this week. Did you all shoot your rifle with this set-up ?

Btw thanks again for the advice this is appreciate.

I will let you know my results with the 6br.
