Hey all, I know the swift was based off the 6mm lee navy but was it just a necked down lee navy? If so is anyone shooting one? Starting to look into some sort of 243/6mm rebarrel on a t3 action and I'm not 100% sure what I want to do but I'd like to be a little faster than the 243. Heard the 6-284 can be really finicky to load for so im looking for other options. Thx

Winchester brought out the 220 Swift in the mid 1930's. . Necked down 6mm navy to 5.5mm?? it would do around 4100 to 4400 fps .

I have a early 1950's M70, in 220 Swift, that has a 26", heavy stainless barrel and an older 15 power Lyman Super Targetspot scope.. . The barrel is still perfect because the original owner loaded to 22-250 savage limits. . The early steel barrels would wear out the rifling, fairly quick, if continuous full house loads were shot down a hot barrel. . Winchester solved this problem with a heavy 26" stainless barrel as stainless steel will work harden and stand up a whole lot better to faster bullets. . The bluing on my M70 is an . . "Iron Blast" . . barrel finish that's blued. . Winchester, apparently, blasted the exterior of the stainless with fine steel particles and then rust blued the barrel . .It looks goods but not shiny smooth, rather a matted finish to it. .

I've shot a few boxes of older factory rounds through the gun and it's a nice cartridge. . Also have a ton of brass and dies but haven't gotten around to loading anything. . Maybe next week?

Chamber it for the 6mm Rem and get a 25-06/270/30-06 magazine and cut back the bolt stop. The 6mm is a little faster than a 243 and you will be able to seat the bullets out giving you an advantage over a 6mm Rem in a short action.
The 6-284 would also work well.

I'll have to check my load data for powders...........can't keep them all in my head anymore, I have hit information overload and all I seem to do now is lose things.............
