6mm-284 or 6mm-06

I was trying to decide between the 6.5x55 or the 260 ...THEN, I started to do a little more looking at the 6.5-284...I thought yea...that might just be the ticket....NOW....6MM-284 DANG it you guys...stop fillin my head with all this neat stuff !!
....hmmmmmmm....so many calibers....so little time !!
 
i was more wondering as to what the real world numbers would be as far as velocity was concerned, if someone wants to "wear out" cases in 3 firings thats their business
 
I have a 6-284 with a 26" barrel and it shoots 115 VLD's just over 3100fps when fireforming 6.5-284 Lapua brass without pressure signs. But now with the brass being formed I have only shot one round and got ejector marks so I am going to have to back them off a bit. This gun is built on a long action Defiance. I have only shot a few coyotes with it so far but I am very impressed with the 115's on the longer shots but up close they can make a mess. I have had some feeding issues with mine, sometimes the bullet will nose into the face of the barrel, a centre feed clip would solve that issue though. Another option would be a 6X47 Lapua, I am just getting one of these built and hoping to get 3200fps with 95 VLD's, it should have a much better barrel life.
 
just woundering how many rounds do you have through your tikka heavy varmit in 22-250 , near 10,000 rounds ? , even if you had over 4,000 rounds theres still lots of life left in the barrel
 
No 22-250 would ever deliver 10,000 full bore loads with any semblance of accuracy.
If you get 3000, you are doing very well indeed.

To the original poster...the 6mm Remington is a very fine performer in it's own right.
If you wanted to, you could AI it, and enjoy a very flat-shooting, relatively long-lasting build.
Brass is easy to come by, and you should get 3300 with 100/108 grain bullets in the AI

I have a 6.5x55AI, and it is a great performer, but you already have a 270AI, so bases are covered,
unless, you want to take advantage of those wonderful, high BC 6.5mm bullets of around 140 grains.

Bottom line...there are many good choices, it's up to you.

If a guy could get a 6mm br to feed perfectly that would be my choice for a varmint rig. Might work in a single stack mag???
 
i hope that the 10,000 or even 4000 rounds out of a 22-250 is a joke, by my count a have appx 2000-2500 rnds thru my 22-250, 1000 of them being 36gr barnes varmint grenades with 40gr varget going 4350fps the rest winchester white box 45grn jhp@4000, not really conservative or slow loads, now i havent had it bores coped and i dont intend on it, i plan on shooting it until the groups open up to what i consider too big and ill have it rebarreled.
