So I have an mdt LSS chassis laying around not doing anything and an 8 twist number 7 benchmark, and a rem 700 SA. The question is do I run my 243ai reamer in it or my 6mmbr?????

If it is for target, I'll go for 6BR. I do have one and it is very accurate up to 600 yards. If it is often windy in your area, then I'll go for a little faster, like 6x47, 243AI.

I would go with the 6-47 Lapua. It's just another reamer, and you have nothin but time. Good luck.

Your a bad influence TCHARDY!! Ive got dies, and brass and reamers for the 243ai and the 6br options already I dont need any more 6mm options at the moment.... Gotta get spitting out some rifles on the new lathe.

This is sound advice, another consideration is getting the 6br to feed from a mag. I would bet the 243ai would feed better.

90% of the time, I single load 6BR even though the rifle has a magazine. Someone did the minor work with the .223 polymer magazine, removed the front lip to let the 6BR flow through.

And the video:

I'm not sure if he did some modification with the magazine.

Decide on the mag you want to use and if you want to fuss with the mag you want to use.

AI rds do not stack well in AICS type mags... I wish they did.

I have owned both the 6BR and the 243ACK for LR target. The 6BRs are now 6 DASHERS (the dasher has a slight edge over the BR), and the dasher is NOT fussy over powders as I found the 6x47Lapua to be. Either one, dasher or 243ack are excellent for LR target.
Enjoy.

My vote would have been for the 6XC. Split the difference. Better velocity than the br. Better barrel life than the AI. But I can understand not wanting to get into another caliber.

The 6BR has set world records at 1000 yds. The 6x47 seems like an interesting round but there is a lot more information for 6BR out there and brass seems easier to come by. The 243AI will be VERY hard on the throat. I'd only go with the big 243 for extreme long distance shooting ..... like in excess of 1500 yds.

If you had the 6x47 reamer and h.s. gauge you could do my 6mm for me. Think about it.

Well then barrel life is a freebie to you. Go 243 AI, burn up that barrel.......and have fun doing it!

Have you looked at the 6mmslr. Don't have any experience with it myself, but it looks like you get qualities of a 243 case capacity but longer barrel life. Have seen people reporting 2000-3000+.

I've been shooting the 6mm Crusader for a few years now, and have gone through several barrels. I run the DTACs at around 3125 fps in 27-28" barrels, and all of my barrels have lasted between 2100-2400 rounds before I start seeing vertical outliers at distance. It can shoot them quite a bit faster, but there seems to be a really tight node around that velocity, so I haven't felt the need to push them faster. The benefit is that brass has lasted forever (I stopped counting after 18 firings) since the pressure isn't very high. That's probably why I'm getting the same barrel life people are reporting with the smaller 6s (XC, Creed, x47) while burning significantly more powder. George Gardiner found that running the 6.5 SAUM 4S at low pressure, the barrels last as long or longer than smaller cartridges running less powder at high pressure.

That has me thinking that if you run the 6SLR at the same velocities as the 6-47 or 6XC, you should get better barrel life even if you're burning a bit more powder. The pressure should be significantly lower, like it is in the 6.5 SAUM 4S and in my 6mm Crusader load, but you also have less powder than the 6mm Crusader.

If you want the single most precise and easy to load cartridge ever designed for shooting beyond 200 yards, go 6BR. If you want less than that, go with something else. If you have too much hair and a good collection of expletives not doing anything, build a 6mmX47 Lapua.

Yes, it has broken several records however you had to shoot 5 or 10 shots under a minute before the wind changed. It was for benchrest shooting. For tactical shooting match, I'd choose 284 WIN. 7mm Berger bullet has higher B.C. than 6mm.
