6MM Creedmoor Build

Just received my new IBI SS Medium Hunter Fluted barrel for a 6MM Creedmoor. Now what action to build it on ? I have a Rem M7 and a Rem M700 and OR a Tikka T3 - Got to be one of these 3 - I already have Other customs on the Rem Actions but not one on a Tikka Yet . Opinion's ? RJ

I built my 6CM on a M700 SA. I’m happy with it, but the action had to be trued/timed/Timney’d. And I scalloped the feed ramp to get the OAL from binderless AI mags. So, a Tikka with interchangeable boltstops might’ve been simpler in the end. Depends on your end goals I suppose. ;)

We are a funny lot, us shooters. Both the 243 and 6CM are pretty much neck & neck in performance, but one is fugly. :)

I'd say the 243 was ahead of it's time and has done pretty well over the years.

LOL WE are a FUNNY Bunch for Sure - I just don't like long 20- type degree necks - Case stretch BAD ! I like 35 -40 degree necks - so i Don't like the 270 Win either BUT love the 280 AI - If there was proper head stamped brass i would do a 243 AI - Its a GREAT cartridge ! I like ALL the AI type cartridges - BUT i will not shoot wrongly head stamped brass at my Bench ! Just a PERSONAL problem - LOL RJ

Won't the barrel shank determine what action you use? I am no expert but I think the Rem 700 uses a 1.25" barrel shank and the Tikka is a 1.125" shank. If I were building, it would be the Tikka that gets the nod, I have built on them before and they are mint, and there is a ton of after market support in stocks, bottom metal, rails and triggers now.

No Not at all Both the M7 & M700 can use the same barrel shank and it can be what ever you want it to be ! I have 4 Tikka's so i am very familar with them with Fact stocks - Wildcat and B&C stocks on them - Tikka triggers are Excellent when set up with a YO Dave spring in them .
Thank you for your Input . RJ

It’s not a matter of being trued rather if new prefit barrels will screw on properly to allow correct headspace. You will know when you pull the trigger for the first time.

Tolerances in Tikkas are consistently tight enough that you can buy shouldered prefits for them. No different than most custom actions. Tom at GBT has shouldered PVA 6.5 barrels on his site last I checked, not sure who else up here offers them.
edit: looks like Proof Research and McGowan make them as well

Of all the cartridges I shoot, the 6mm/243 dia. is the most joyful to shoot. The main reason is low recoil, very accurate and reloading components, especially powder, a pound will go further compared to a standard cartridge load.

The IBI Med Hunter Spiral fluted barrel is Now installed on the Rem M7 Action - GEF squared the action and then chambered and installed the barrel - The bolt was already spiral fluted - Gary also Gun Koted the barrel a Pewter colour and the action - bottom metal a Satin black ! Next i'm getting Wildcat stock fitted up with pillars and a thin Pachmayr .600 thick Decelerator recoil pad ! Total weight before rings and scope will be 88 oz (5 1/2 lbs ) . RJ
