Now the hard part begins. 6 or 6.5. Been pondering it for a long time. It's good to see more and more choices in each caliber

Yea too bad Nosler lies through their teeth about their BC's.

The 6mm are cool for sub 1k but when you get past 1k they have such little energy it can be hard to see hits on plates they don't really move the plates and don't make much of a noise. When I was at the SH cup 2 years ago the guys with 6mms were wishing they brought something with more ass when shooting the 1200+ target because there was no way to verify hits on the steel they barely even marred the paint on the plates.

I have read the "what the pro's use" articles and it seems that the 6mm's are by far the most popular.
For you guys that have gone to various prs or sniper's hide type events - is there many people running the 6.5 Berger hybrid 130 OTM's from a 260?

It's about time.. I saw the story years back and thought it would have been released that following SHOT show.

Took their sweet time but now it is done... Very nice stuff indeed.

I believe the Hrn 6.5 is a 143gr ELD... not a 147, unless they have made yet another new bullet.

Look forward to shooting and testing more of these new bullets.

The 6.5 143 eld X is their hunting bullet I believe

Time to dig out that old 6.5-284 reamer.

Even with compensation for the initially optimistic bc numbers, the 147 has competitive potential if gets rolling above 2800.

Oh, I don't know about this.... using more slower burning fuel at lower pressures might just increase bore life.

Jerry

Pretty much everybody runs straight 4350 and 105 hybrids in both. Guys are reporting slightly more barrel life out of the creed, and theorizing it's got to do with shoulder angle...
You are correct though, the main advantage is cartridge length.

Switching to H4831SC or even better H1000 for the 243 would lower peak pressure for the same velocity and likely increase bore life.

I have never shot these but there are some wildcats based off the 243 and 6mm Rem where H1000 is the fuel of choice and they report much better bore life. Certainly the science makes sense... how practical it is, I cannot say.

H4350 is a wonderful powder and I burn buckets of it but like all other Extreme powders, they can become very erosive once you go past magnum pressures. If both peak pressures are the same (243 vs cm), the fact that the 243 must burn more fuel would certainly cause more wear and tear.

BUT if you drop peak pressure substantially using a much slower powder, the bore temp is dramatically cooler and thus erosion can be much less. You aren't going any slower because you have so much more fuel to push on the bullet.

Fouling could go way up but we can clean our barrels at the end of the day.

SO..... just depends
