6mm Creedmoor goes mainstream!

Switching to H4831SC or even better H1000 for the 243 would lower peak pressure for the same velocity and likely increase bore life.

I have never shot these but there are some wildcats based off the 243 and 6mm Rem where H1000 is the fuel of choice and they report much better bore life. Certainly the science makes sense... how practical it is, I cannot say.

H4350 is a wonderful powder and I burn buckets of it but like all other Extreme powders, they can become very erosive once you go past magnum pressures. If both peak pressures are the same (243 vs cm), the fact that the 243 must burn more fuel would certainly cause more wear and tear.

BUT if you drop peak pressure substantially using a much slower powder, the bore temp is dramatically cooler and thus erosion can be much less. You aren't going any slower because you have so much more fuel to push on the bullet.

Fouling could go way up but we can clean our barrels at the end of the day.

SO..... just depends

Hard to get enough h1000 in a 243 case and have competitive velocities.
4831sc pegs out around 3000 fps at 60,000. Same velocity in the 6 creed at the same powder charge. But as I mentioned, guys are seeing less erosion when using the same powder, theoretically due to shoulder angle.
Seems like a stretch to me, but what do I know ?

These pressure/ barrel life arguments get ridiculous, what are you going to get? Maybe another 600-700 rounds? The best part, its not even set in stone! They are consumables at the end of that day.

You have that right..tomatoes really..let em eat
I run 3150 average on 105 hybrids on my 243 with a 22 inch barrel. Lapua brass is done in 4 firings as the primer pocket wont hold the primers anymore but its one fun rig so who cares really...i know coyotes dont mind either..hahaha

Not a 243 exactly but my 6SLR digests a large diet of H1000 and zips along at 3160fps. You just have to figure out how to stuff the powder in the case better. Also, 6SLR has a sharper shoulder and longer neck than the 243, both of which should factor in for better throat life. I haven't seen a 6CM case yet but maybe it also uses a longer neck?

I'm shooting a PGWDTI coyote in a 6 competition match. 49.5 gr H1000 under a 105 hybrid. Just under 3200fps. I could go faster if I wanted. There's plenty of room and no pressure. But it shoots very well where it is and I have no trouble keeping up to 6.5/.284 or anyone else for that matter. I used it at Connaught in September and did very well with it. Probably the easiest round I've ever loaded for other than .223 and .308. Even the fireforming loads were about 1/2 moa.

Looks like I lost my wildcat status. Oh well, maybe I can try factory ammo soon.

I'm shooting 105 Berger Match Hybrids over H4350 in my 6mm Creedmoor. I was getting really good accuracy with a MV of 3140 fps, although I had to back off to a lower node 3070 fps because of PRS rules at MLRSC.

The 26" Benchmark barrel I have is fast and I should have about 1000 rounds through it after we shoot Meaford practice on Saturday. Pressure seems fine, getting the same velocity with around a grain less powder as the sister rifle with a Bartlein barrel.
