Wondering if there's any brilliant ideas on where this chamber shines? Sure it's got a little extra capacity than the .243, but what would one use the "extra" for? Lets say ideas 85 gr and up for deer, and less than 85 gr for everything varmint. Any powder or bullet combos that are worth looking into?

I am building a fast twist 6mmAI, not going AI so much for speed but for brass life and reduced stretch. The 6mmRem shines with the heavies and a fast twist. Other than that, not much reason to choose one over a 243.

Mine does well with heavier bullets, I have not done much with the lighter stuff. My rifle likes 4831, and r17. r17 can be a little hard to find these days.

I built one on a pre 64 mod 70 action. 10 twist I shoot 65 gr match bullets at 3700 fps coyote rifle.
The 6mm Rem wont stretch brass like a .243 does. Does benefit somewhat in a long action. I also shoot a 243 Ackley but find it a bit harder on barrels though overall at least in my rifles a touch more accurate. the Ackley does not stretch brass (but loosens primer pockets). The 6 Rem is my go to varmint special!!

I loaded 100 grain Sierra Pro-Hunters and H4350, with decent accuracy - have yet to settle on exact charge as my coffee drinking may have skewed range results. I have a .243 as well, loaded with 85 gr Gamekings and it's super accurate. I guess I'm wondering if I load a 6mm light, what to expect in terms of shooting flat and terminal results on coyotes and dirt poodles.

75gr Sierra HP's on top of IMR 4350 works well in my rifle, 45.0 even was the best. First target @ 100yds; second @300yds. 75 v-max on top of IMR 4831 works really good too.

I've got a 243, a couple of 6mm's, and a 6mm Ackley.

Can't see myself ever using it on big game but who knows? Might try one on a coyote or some light bullets for gophers.

69gr Bergers loaded with Superformance powder are just nasty on coyotes, not fur friendly but highly effective. 55gr NBTs loaded to 4000fps+ with H4895 makes gophers turn to red mist right before your eyes. I have only shot a couple deer with 100gr BTSPIL so far, nothing special or magical, just a couple dead deer. In all fairness I don't really use my Cooper 6mm for deer unless I'm just going to sit in a ground blind as it is a single shot and a little on the heavy side for walking around with.

I wouldn't hesitate to use it on whitetail, but not larger.

I have my beloved .25's for whitetail and larger! ;)

When I lived up north I'd fly back every year for whitetail hunting with my dad.
Figured borrowing his Sako .270 was ruining my mojo so had guntech screw a .250 Ackley together for me.

Lo and behold I got my mojo back! :)

You're right about that ........ the 25s are better.

The 6mm/244 would have done well for itself if Remington would have chambered it in a long action and included a fast enough twist to stabilise heavy bullets but they screwed up hence the existence of the 243 Win.Not being able to stabilize 100gr bullets is what sprung the 243 ahead of the 6mm. It is a good round but not enough of an advantage over the 243 in a medium/short action, this cartridge needs a 3" mag box and at least a 10" twist to shoot 100 gr bullets with a properly throated chamber, in fact by todays standards it would be superior with the heavy 107 gr bullets that 6's are shooting at extended ranges.
