I noticed that neither RCBS nor Lee sell 6mmBr dies. Guess most of you are using Redding dies?. Those of you who have a 6mmBr, which dies do you use, where are you getting them in Canada, and how much do they cost?

I have Redding bought them from Sinclairs (mail ordered from the States) can't remember the price .Google Sinclairs and do a search you will find them!!
Mine are the bushing style dies as I have a .262 neck that requires turned brass.
Die body sizes the case while the neck bushing give just the right amount for the proper fit. I use a Homemade Wilson style seater for straight line bullet seating with an arbor press. Made with the same reamer that cut the chamber.

Redding Competition die set (note, they say 6mmBR Remington) They work really well.

They are available all over... up to $200 difference looking south of the border though

Redding Competition 3 Die Set

dnrsports.com (high ship cost but phone and talk to Mark and you may be able to get a better shipping rate, best prices on the dies)
sinclairintl.com (higher die cost but better shipping prices, put a larger order together to offset the ship charge)

Bar none

the best guy to deal with is John Walton of Gunstop Reloading in Minnetonka Minnesota.

His site is www dot gunstop dot com. I will guarantee he will not disappoint you. His shipping is the cheapest I ahve ever had. How many places stuff all they can into a Expresspost envelope from the US? Gunstop is the only one I have seen.

Don' waste money on the 3 die set. Get the 2 die set with the bushing neck die that sets the shoulder back slightly and the comp seater. I bought the 3 die set and HATE the extra step to bump the shoulder back. Doing it all in one stroke takes less time.

Get yourself a Forester bump die set and a full body die from Sinclair. I bought a full body die and then had Forester open the neck up to give my brass .0015 neck tension. They charge $10 for this service. The bump die has bushings.

Forster is top kit, especailly their bump-bushing die and seating die, the latter having been copied by Redding. RCBS also has bushing dies for 6mmBR.

Regards,

Peter

You should only need to body size every 3-4 firings with 6BR, why put the expensive Lapua brass through the extra wear if it's not needed.

I neck size mine for 3 firings then run through the body die. My brass has 3 years of loadings and show no signs of giving up anytime soon.

Cyanide

I treat my 6BR reloadings just as I do the 6PPC. With the pressures these cartridges tend to run especially with the PPC the shoulder needs to be bumped EVERY time. I tend to load in the upper window for these cartridges.

I have done my 6BR from day one bumping the shoulder and have had no problems with the brass. I throw lapua brass out more often than I throw away Win brass. If I am having a bad shoot I have tossed brass in the garbage and started anew. Just ask the mouths that dropped at the Western Nationals in Regina this past year.

When I rebarrel the 6BR with my new 8 twist barrel and my own reamer, I will be ordering a Harrel die for sizing the brass. They are designed to squeeze the entire case approx 2 thou throughout. It is the only way as far as I am concerned to load.

So in other words I agree to disagree.

I have never thrown away a piece of lapua brass for anything caused by anything other than my own doing. I have Lapua 6BR brass with 20+ firings and still tight in the primer pockets.

CyaN1de's regime is excellent... It works for me, but then I don't run red line.

.

Different strokes for different folks. BR world is different here. This is what Calvin is alluding to above.

Not too many guys running more than about 50 firings in the PPC cases anymore. I throw mine out after about 20-25 firings, usually due to work hardening. Surprisingly the pockets aren't the issue.

There was a time in BR when you couldn't get PPC cases all that readily and shooters had worked out a way to stretch cases to about 250 firings, myself included. BR is no longer about preserving brass life forever. Too many problems with work hardening and inconsistent neck tension etc. Those days are long gone. Hard to win today using the low pressure loads and work hardened brass of yesteryear. Today it is redline plus.

Fresh brass provides a noticeable improvement in gun handling and speed as the force required to chamber and extract it is so much less. No amount of custom dies (bump, fl, bump and squeeze etc), will remedy brass that has passed its prime and no longer responds to the dies. And annealing is in no solution here due to the inconsistent nature of the process. Just get new brass!

I'm looking at building a 6mmbr and am seriously thinking about a custom sized die rather than the normal bushing setup.

How do I go about getting this done and what are your thoughts on this?

I'm thinking the Redding comp seater will be perfect?

I'm merciless with brass btw.

For sizing you have a couple of options, buy your gunsmith a reamer to use for making a sizing die, it should be about .002" smaller in the major dimensions as the reamer used to ream the barrel. I would keep the bushing idea by the way, since you want that flexibility. You can get blank dies from Newlon. Not sure of the address.

Second option is to send 3 pieces of fired brass to http://www.harrellsprec.com/

And they will send back a die that fits your chamber. I think they only do BR and PPC though.

I would go with a Wilson straight line seater die and and and arbour press.
