Hello all, would like to build a small 6mm on a CZ527 7.62x39. I have intent of shooting 64gr Bergers. I have PPC dies, but was second guessing the PPC based on $173 220 Russian brass and fire forming, but not the absolute end of the world. 6.5 Grendel brass is about the same price but no real fore forming required. Any experience would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chad

Why not just build a 6mm ARC?

Essentially a PPC but 'fancier'... :)

You can check but the case dimensions and see how your dies would work. Maybe you build a PPC but use ARC brass and form or ?????

Jerry

sako and norma both make 6ppc brass, so you actually don't have to fire form unless you want lapua brass

We all know accuracy wise the PPC wins hands down.

You could go Norma brass based on a no turn neck reamer. A .269 necked reamer should work I believe with Norma brass. Lapua a different story, you would need to turn necks.

6br definitely won't fit in that chassis. I had one before and enjoyed shooting it.

Yes, that was my question kind of Jerry, 6ppc vs 6mm ARC vs 6mm AR. Is the ARC just a 6mm Grendel necked down or no? I will look closer at the drawings.

I will be going no turn no matter what as I only shoot competitively against me! lol

I've heard of Sako and Norma PPC brass but have never seen any for sale or not recently.

I used no turn neck on Lapua 6BR brass, can you not do a no turn with a PPC and 220 Russian brass or does it deform the necks during fire form that much?

I have 4 barrels chambered with a no turn .220 russian neck, I believe my brass is 0.274, it gives up nothing to the turned necks from my experience

Okay last comment. So after looking at drawings, to me it looks like the ARC and Grendel are a little over .1 to .14mm longer to the shoulder then the PPC. Not that big of adjustment to me, very similar otherwise. So I could buy Grendel Lapua brass and size to either ARC with new dies or size to PPC with my existing dies. Neither would require major fire forming, just load and shoot kinda deal. Or am I missing something?

CZ offered the 527 in 6.5 Grendel from the factory if that matters to you.

I have a CZ527 in 7.62x39m, a Sako 75 in 6PPC and an AR in 6.5 Grendel.
If I was to re-barrel the 527 in either of those cartridges, it would be the PPC hands down.

If taper and diameter are the same between ARC and PPC, just use the PPC dies 'higher' in the press.

Or size down to the PPC... all simple stuff. Given the action, see if you can find a gunsmith with the reamer you want... that will determine what you can chamber for.

As luck would not have it, I called my gunsmith today and he has neither reamer. So on the hunt for either a reamer or a gunsmith near to me that has one! haha And not much is near me!
