I am thinking of playing with this, and am curious if ayone has done it and what were your opinions. I have a 7 twist Krieger ordered and want to use the 115 gr 6mms.

A 6x55 would be very, very similar to the 6mm Remington.
Apart from having a wildcat cartridge, what would be the point?

This was my thought as well. The case capacity of the 6.5x55 and the 6mm Remington would be so close that it would be practically impossible to tell the difference. Unless you are absolutely certain you want a "Wildcat", the 6mm Remington would be a better choice. I have a Gaillard barrelled 6mm Remington with a 1-8" twist and it shoots the 103-108 grain bulllets very well indeed. I have never tried the 115's but I believe your 1-7" twist would be better for them. If you are absolutely sold on the 6.5x55 case for this project, I would be tempted to "improve" it (40º Ackley shoulder, straight walled case) since the 6.5x55 case has a fair bit of taper, and neck sizing will make it difficult to chamber after 3-4 firings. The improved case is much better in this respect. Regards, Eagleye.

I want to use Lapua brass. That is why I am thinking of the 6.5 x 55 as the parent cartridge. I thought of improving it but wondered if it was necessary? As long as I can get the 115s to 3000 fps that would be adequate.

I do not know if that velocity level is reasonable, or if that would be a velocity which would give maximum accuracy. A long barrel can be an easy way of maximizing velocity.
6.5x55 and 6.5x55 Improved are well thought of for F Class shooting. I am sure that 6mmm would work, although bore life would likely be shorter. .243 has a reputation of having a relatively short accuacy life for target shooting, and you are going to be using more powder. It has been suggested that the longer neck of the 6mm Rem. contributes to better barrel life.
I suppose it basically depends on your desire to use Lapua 6.5X55 brass as the parent case.
