Anyone tried a 6mm based on a 6.5x55 case?

Great lapua brass available, shorter case that fits in a 3.3” mag with long pointy bullets. Trying to figure out how to use this benchmark 6mm 7.5 twist blank I have.

You are basically just reinventing the 6mm Rem on a case that is for all intents and purposes indistinguishable... not much pay off for all that expense.

Just looking for a way to use the several hundred lapua swede cases I have.

As far as dies go, a set of regular swede bushing dies will work. Not sure how it works with a reamer. Could the chamber be cut with a neck less swede reamer and a 6mm neck reamer?

You spelt 6mm Arch wrong and it won't fit in the 527.

Huh? The ARC (advanced rifle cartridge) would fit a Grendel or 7.62x39 527

I have a feeling this is a reference that is going over my head

Slimbo you don’t own a 6.5x55? I thought you would have a 6.5x55 tikka for sure, maybe RJ (TJ) can sell you one

You will end up with the same as a 6 mm Rem. And that only gets interesting if you neck it up to .257

Coming from the creator of the 7.62x57 lol.

I could easily argue that point as the differential is significantly more, in splitting between .308 and .30/06 with the plethora of brass and free barrel and unused donor rifle on hand... but a 6X55 would be virtually indistinguishable from the 6X57, and the 6mm Rem is a pretty good cartridge as is.

As it turned out, the 7.62X57 HC worked out pretty well, and gets used alot... there are half a dozen of them in use now, in ON, MB, AB & BC.

Like you I have a plethora of brass, a free barrel and a donor action sitting here. Never said I wanted more performance than a 6mm Remington.

As for the 7.62 Hoyt, you could have got there by loading a 308 win with ramshot TAC but hey where’s the fun in that.

This site is a riot
