6xc in tubb2000

The 6XC can push the heavier bullets (105 and up) faster, thus less wind drift since less time in flight. It's longer in the body and that is about it really. I shoot a 6/250 30° Imp and it is a few thou longer yet in the body than a 6XC. The 6BR uses 30-32g of powder were the 6XC or my 250 uses 38-40g of like powder. Powder is like gas, the more you burn, the more horsepower you have. The 6BR is easiler to tune and can shoot scary small groups at 1000 yds IF the wind is not crazy. Barrel life on my 6/250 was 3800 before she was no longer competitive, ie over 1 moa were a 6BR maybe a hair more, never owned one long enough to burn her out. Had one in a LV for group and she shot, not as good as the 6PPCs but close :) Both the 6BR and 6XC are great LR cartridges. Both have brass you can buy without messing around pushing shoulders around.

250 Savage is the parent, blown out like a 6BR long

Not anymore thank god LOL just a handle full, maybe 5 from of the above now, 'cats still have and load for are 22MR, 30x47, 6/250. Stockers are a pair of tight necked 308s(not really stock eh), and a super light and short 300WM for hunting.

I never got that much powder in MY BR. Most I dared to squash in was 30.1 and started showing pressure signs, 29.5 of Re 15 works nice.
Considering the 6XC for next year. I was told to expect 34.5-35 grs. and 115 gr bullets instead of my 105's and 107's

I'm tossing around the idea of the 6XC or now reading about this 6/250. I had a 243AI, but burnt the throat out at about 1500 rounds, re-barreled the action with the same and found out after about 75 rounds that the twist rate was changed from the original 1-8 to a 1-10 in the new barrel(gunsmith install wrong blank, he assumed this was a varmint rig not a heavy bullet rig). I love how 6mm A-maxs get down range when you push them above 2800, I have shot against many shooters that compete with either 6mmBR or 6.5/284, and again to find a caliber that was able to compete with both and achieve the muzzle velocity as well as barrel life, I turned to a 30" MacLennan 6.5/308tn, this rig works great on the range or in a static position but not a field gun as it is a single shot platform. I want to build a new mag fed bolt gun, I might purchase a Tubb2000 or have a PGW custom rig put together.

Kodiak, could you explain where you start and how you form your cases, not sure if you start with 250Sav. cases or
do you neck up and fire form 22/250 cases.
You mentioned bumping the shoulders, so I would assume that your using 250Sav. cases.

Thanks

Darryl

Darryl, I have tried 308 Lapua, 308 UBR small primers, 250 Savage and Norma 6XC cases, and a handful of Fed 22-250 cases, all made into 6-250 30° Imp. Of all of these, the Norma 6XC is the simpliest to form into my case. All of these except the 6XC require a shoulder push, even the 22-250 brass.

For the 308 brass, I used a friends 250 form dies 1, 2, and 3, (die 3 is an inside reamer die) then a shortened 308 die to set shoulder way back, then thru the 6-250 size die.

For the Norma 6XC, it's once over the 260 mandrel and thru the 6-250 size die.

, I might purchase a Tubb2000
You are going to have to take another route as the US Dept of Defense has listed McMillan Bros Rifles an essentail military supplier .That means no exportation of any rifle outside of the US with the exception of Military or Law Enforcement this includes the Tubb 2000 [Because McMillan makes the Tubb 2000] your only option is to purchase it used I know of 3 personally in Canada but I have heard that there may be at least 6 in total. BTW the Tubb 2000 is great rifle to shoot a lot of great features

Have you shot yours much Wayne?I'm guessing you got it in .308.Or did it even arrive before all the rules changed?

I got mine just before the doors closed so to speak ,Yes I got it in 308 it is amazing to shoot the action is really smooth and requires no effort to cycle the action .The intersting feature on the rifle is the recoil reducing butt stock it really does work it is kind of wierd when you first shoot the rifle .You can feel the rifle recoiling thru your cheek weld but the there is literally nothing at the shoulder. The only thing I don't like on the rifle is the pistol grip stock it is not that comfortable and does not lend it's self well for shooting left handed .The trigger is great but I am in a learning curve right now on the trigger adjustment's. I have about 200 rnds thru it now just shooting factory ammmunition now to get a good custom load. I am looking at having the barrel threaded but that is going to be at a later date . Does Barry still have his or did he sell it

Thanks Kodiak for the information, it looks like if you’re starting with 6XC brass anyways, I might just go that route for the first one! lol. Being an almost retired officer from both the Canadian and American Forces, still holding a valid Green Card and married to an American citizen with a current mailing address in Utah, it's not really a problem acquiring such pieces. The only problem is getting the mother in law to repackage and forward the stuff, or worse I have to go and visit. lol.

Thanks Guys

Darryl
