I'm sold !
I recently installed a 26" m24 contour 8 twist .243 krieger barrel ( thanks Peter )on a trued 700 and chambered it with a 6xc reamer ( thanks Gary ), It had 120 rounds on it, fireforming Lapua 22/250 and Norma 6xc cases with 68grn Bergers and 85 grn hpbt Sierras with VV N150 and everything shot around 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups which I thought wasn't too bad.
Today I shot a few 105 Berger hybrids through it and if the results are repeatable it joined the two other rifles ( a PH C3 and a 1407 Anchutz ) that I have shot that were extraordinarily easy to get amazing groups with.
It's also pretty easy to see your hits on steel at 400 without a muzzle brake

You don't have to fire form anything. Tons of factory Norma 6XC brass around

Reeeeeally? I was unaware of that. I happen to have a n700 varmint in 243 waiting for me to decide what to turn it into. The OP has really peaked my interests again

Proper rate of twist and the 115 dtacs are monsters. Better BC and coated and pointed at $250 per 500...much better choice then the bergers aswell.

Yeah the XC is tied as my fav cartridge with the 6.5x47L right now

No need to fire form you can find Norma brass easy

Insite built me a 6xc earlier this year ( Surgeon, Hawk Hill, McMillan ) and it is better than my 6.5-47L and is the most accurate repeater I've seen. Norma brass is easily available and is only 10c a case more expensive than Lapua brass. I use the Berger 108BT and consistently shoot in the .3's.

Shot a few more 105 hybrids today and at 2923 average on my crony five shot groups could be hidden under a nickel shooting off my pack on a bench at 100yrds. With an SD of 8 it should work good at long range. Hopefully at least as good as a 308 driving 185 jugs at 2800, with much less recoil and consumable reloading component cost. Seems like a good long range paper punch or gong ringer and if I can line up a fat buck in the next couple weeks I'm going to find out how 85 grn hpbt game kings at 3250 fps work out.

have run the 115 dtacs at 3250 and still very accurate. I run them typically at 3080 with the ISD of 5 and the sds in the 2 and 3. Very fun for yotes too

I also have had some hard earned experience with the 6XC, on my second barrel, with an order in at Insite for a third, and it is an awesome caliber in my opinion too.
Some of my Norma brass probably has 10-12 reloads on it, and having barely lost one yet.
I am on my second 6XC rifle from Insite and it’s just such a great all round caliber. I have found thru lots of load testing and playing around, with different bullets, several different powders and 3-4 different Primers, that it has such wide and forgiving nodes, it’s a reloaders dream.
I bought a 6mm SLR at the same time as my first 6XC, and while it shot great some days, and had a bit more horsepower and velocity then my 6XC, it was super finicky. The 6XC shoots so consistent, it’s almost too easy.
As an example, I’ve shot the same load of Berger 105 Hybrids, 39.6gr of H4350, S&B primer, .002 neck tension, 20 thou off the lands, in Edmonton in January at minus 5 degrees, and in BC in 35 degree heat in August, never altered my load, and was easy to shoot under 1/2 Moa both places. I can’t decide right now whether I like the 105s or DTACs better, both shoot great for me.
Even my 6.5 Creedmoor isn’t that forgiving.
Need to acknowledge that of the 6-7 different calibers of rifles I’ve gotten thru Insite, there really hasn’t been any that didn’t shoot great though.

Thanks for the kind words!!!
We really like the 6xc..,it is very inherently accurate; we firmly believe in the inherent accuracy of certain chamberings: .223, 6PPC, 6BR, 6Dasher, 6XC, 6.5x47L, 6.5CM, 7mmRem, 7XR, 308 Win, 300 Win, 300 Norma...to name just a few of the cartridges that seem to stand out as exceptional
Redrams9, you comments carry significant weight for myself and Harley as we know you often shoot 400-600 rounds on a weekend alone. True trigger time and experience is invaluable...Thanks again!
Andy

The 6xc is my favorite caliber, it's crazy accurate easy to load for. Reasonably priced components, low recoil, feeds from a mag very well, I don't think I have a bad thing to say about it

Guys like Shawn_338 (and Slim) convinced me the 6xc was awesome and Insite sold me a barrel for it.

I am not sure if it is better than the 6.5X47 but it sure is just as good.

The 115 DTAC has identical ballistics (more or less) to my 140 Hybrid with less recoil. Not much to complain about.

I had Craig from AC Douglas in Saskatoon set up my 6XC using a Benchmark barrel. The 6XC Norma brass works great, I have only used Berger 105g VLD Hybrid with H4350 in the gun and they shoot amazing, it's the most accurate of my collection. My range maxes out at 300 yards...I would love to stretch it past this distance.

I'm running a Benchmark barrel as well, my second on the 6XC, and love them. I had a 1/8 twist on my first, and have gone to 1/7.5 on this one I think?, but don't see much difference in loads or performance between the two barrels.
I've shot mine out to 1000 yards this spring in crazy humid heat and high gusty winds in Texas on a 3 day shoot, and it ran neck and neck with my 6.5 Creedmoor, very impressive.

I think we would be remiss if this thread didn't mention that expected barrel life on a 6XC is, what, about 1000 rounds? (based on what I've heard on the internet)

From our experience barrel life on the 6XC is closer to between 1600 and 2000 rounds. Of course there are so many variables: are we shooting matches with 12 round strings or banging steel with slow five round groups and letting the barrel cool?....my current barrel has about 1600 on it and its still an easy 0.3 barrel....but I likely will not run it into next season as I'd guess the end may be near. I have talked to others who have got well over 2000.

A while back I had a rifle put together in 6x47 Lapua using a Gary Schnieder polygonal barrel.

I never got a consistent load worked up using the Lapua small primer brass and eventually gave up on the idea and began to use 6XC brass for the large primer.

6XC is only about 0.050" longer than 6x47L so it was the closest case I could find to reform to 6x47L.

The large primers were a total game changer for me and the chronograph loved it.

The rifle was great for almost exactly 800 rounds before the barrel took a hard left and accuracy died off sharply.

So based on my experience I would think 2000 rounds out of a barrel would be optimistic... on the other hand I did have polygonal rifling which probably would not have the life expectancy of 5R or some more traditional rifling approach.

BTW, I was running 115s at around 3000 FPS with very low single digit SDs.

A little over 150 rounds since last cleaning and it's not grouping as well now. I suspect a good cleaning is the answer. I think 150 is good but I'm interested in what others have seen with their mid sized 6mms.
Its got lots of case neck length to chase the lands so time will tell about Bughole Accurate Barrel life but it should be better than the 7 twist 22/250 barrel it replaced.
