7-08, 7x57 or 7mm express

What do drag racers say?
"There is no replacement for displacement."
The 280/7X/7x64, will always have a bit more gitty up than its other slightly smaller kin the .275 Rigby, and 7mm08.

That's not meant as a knock on the Rigby or the necked down .308, it just highlights the difference.

Love the classic 7x57 best, got two of them. Done a lot of hunting with the 7mm-08, very effective, doesn't give me the same warm feeling as the mauser though. I've always had a small crush on the .280 but never owned one. Hard to justify while owning .270, 7x57, 7mm-08, .308 and 30-06.

So for me, 1st 7x57
2nd .280
3rd 7mm-08

The 7x57 does offer waaaaaaay more classic warm fuzzy qualities that would appeal to the Fudd masses but in a pure practical sense offers less than the 7/08 in current rifles and ammo selection while delivering about the same in performance.

Save your flames ......... I like the 7x57. Own one in a rimmed version.

I wish I had a dog in this hunt. I sold my 280 when I bought my 7mm-08 and it is my go to rifle. My 7x57 is a joy to carry and a thing of beauty. If I only had one I wouldn't be a gun nut. But if I had to pick only one I also shoot the 220 swift and the 257 Roberts so I might have a thing for nostalgia. After all the 275 Rigby has been getting er done for over a hundred years who am I to argue with that.

7x57 in a Mauser, double, or other break action (a timeless classic that works well)
7mm-08 in a modern rifle (effective, efficient, short action)
280 (don't need one with a 30-06 on tap)

Depends on the crowd yewzse hunting with.
Pick the one they ain't shewt'n.
Always sumbuddy drink'n yer bewzse.

Me?

7mm awt ate.
7 buy fifty seven

And t'other uno.

yeah but I own them all, kind of like owning 3 of all the same car isn't it..........no real difference between then balistically and they all work.
so which one should I Ackley improve? or should I rebore instead.........hehehe............

Oh crap already, I own all of them , pick one and have fun!!
However, just as a point of order, NONE are as good as their counterparts in 6.5 anything- there, my two cents have been logged!:>)

ever have one of those days where it takes longer to pick a rifle then it does to get dressed??? Now I know what women go through with shoes..........
Every day I am out hunting, be it for big game or birds!!
it's a curse I have to deal with, many days don't know what I am going to use untill the dogs are loosed and we are ready to head out!!
