7-08 ttsx 140. Elk?

Well saw elk on this trip. However they saw me as well. No shots taken, but I can verify from my observations that 70kmh as a top speed of running elk, is a very real possibility those things are still probably running, and very fast.

Got out of truck walked to where spot was, and poof gone like that.. Fast animals, wow!!

I disagree with many people. I barnes triple shocks in my 7mm-08 and they did not expand on a cow elk. Got the job done but there was little to no bullet expansion. Great bullets for magnum not so great for smaller cases. Note: i handload my 7mm-08 as hot as i can.

Have you got any pictures of the recovered bullets?

Last year I shot my elk with a single 130gr copper solid from a 6.5 creedmoor, and, this, year I bagged my elk with a single round from my 6.5x284 Norma, using Barnes' 130gr TSX. I think your 7mm should be fine if you can put it where it needs to go?

Cheers,

Brobee

I have shot about 35 Elk, and been along on another dozen or so.
We did chase one my buddy shot quite a way before we anchored it, but in all fairness the shot was too high for decent lung hit, and missed the spine low.

No Elk I have shot through both lungs made it further than 80 yards.

I do not like busting the shoulder of an edible animal unless the presentation leaves me no choice.

All that being said, I do like an adequate chambering when chasing Elk, since I find them a bit more tenacious of life than a moose.
A 7mm premium bullet should do just fine.
