7-30 Waters Ammo

You might get lucky by emailing every back area shop you can find. I have a 7-30 Waters as well and really like it. It's one of the Model 94 Winchesters. Great rifle and a great cartridge. Of course it is a hand loading only proposition. I got a bunch of brass, dies, loaded rounds with the rifle so that saved a lot of trouble.

The thing is, the only two companies that made bullets for this cartridge quit producing them five years ago. Same goes for anyone that loaded the cartridges. Once in a while I can find a box of bullets to reload. Usually they are Noslers. I would much prefer the Hornady offering as they seem to work better at the velocities this cartridge produces. The 7-30 Waters would have been a prime candidate for the Ackley Improvement.

I am lucky and can turn off the pointy bullet tips or just make up hard cast bullets but if you don't hand load, with this cartridge unless you can find a hidden stash you are out of luck and maybe should look at rebarreling to 30-30

thx bearhunter.....I found that Federal has 7-30 Waters ammo. My local Gunstore just ordered me in four 20 rd boxes and I should have them some time next week...that will be my brass for reloads and now I'll start looking for dies a good reload recipe and bullets. By the sounds of it..bullets will be the most difficult to find.. I reload for just about every handgun caliber but this will be my first foray into reloading for rifles....I may have to get back to you for some guidance inre; this caliber...

Because the Original Poster seems to have gotten his answer and because this cartridge intrigues me, could we discuss this cartridge's purpose?

Never heard of this cartridge before googling it today, but because it was intended to replace or complement the Model 94 in 30-30, it interests me.
Ken Waters took the 30-30 casing and necked it down to 7mm to shoot a lighter bullet, faster, creating longer range capability.

What is the attitude towards this: improvement or complication? Were people happy to re-barrel their 30-30 to get a lever action that would
reach out past 200m? Or was it a waste of effort because people would use a bolt action for long ranges? Does the shortage of ammo answer
my question?

I bought the rifle simply because of the obscure cartridge. I have talked to some of the old timers that I know and most have never heard of 7-30 Waters. I have not been able to hear of any pros or cons for this caliber. bear hunter is the first person that has replied with any info.... So I also am very interested in any discussion inre; the caliber as well..
