My boss is a Swiss immigrant, and has inherited his fathers service rifle - a model 1911 straight pull bolt action rifle. He has managed to import it and I got to handle it today. It's now the oldest gun I've ever held, my previous "oldest" being my dads 1920-something winchester pump, a family heirloom.

I was fascinated with the construction and operation of the action - we all were, actually, as I work at a machine shop. Once you see how it works, it's not really all that complicated, but for the period they are certainly a unique and beautiful achievement of design and production.

I do have a question though. I'm sure that the owner would appreciate an opportunity to use his inheritance from time to time, to actually take it out and shoot it. I'd never even heard of 7.5 x 55 until I started researching this rifle. Is ammunition available?

I think TSE is out now, but check with them to be sure. There are ppl selling cases and sleeves of it on the EE, look for GP-11.

You will get absolute best accuracy by handloading. Tradex (tan button at page top) has brass and dies. Bullets are standard .308", primers and powders are regular types. Lee also makes dies for this, quite inexpensive.
