7.5x55 Swiss K-31 hunting load

Great group, looks like your set! I couldn't get that group with GP 11 ammo out of my k11 at roughly the same distance, I was getting about 3" spread maybe more. Probably the shooter more than the gun though.

I have one of the last walnut stocked K-31's made.It shoots about the same with irons......it is wearing a steel Swiss side mt and a 6x Leupold to hunt with.I need a scope these days and this is only hunting ammo not the impeccable GP11 ammo .Expect it will do for deer.......Harold

I'd say your doing well, I'd love to tighten the groups up for my k11, I know it can do better with Irons, wish I took a picture of the target to show the grouping I took. Good luck hopefully you can bag one this year!

Dan.

I usually seat a bullet in an unprimed case ,color it black with a Sharpie, then chamber it.The rifling will mark the bullet and I then re-color it ,seat it a hair deeper and check again. When there are no marks I lock the die and record the OAL for that bullet. K-31's have very short throats and this is where the problem is with them for reloaders as they were designed around the match/military GP11 ammo not hunting rounds who's ogive is all over the place.Takes some tinkering but it is worth it.The GP 11 is supposed to be loaded with RE#17 according to the Swiss Forum. They have data and correct OAL for many hunting bullets by members and trial and error.....They have good luck with IMR 4350 and 165-180gr bullets as well......Harold

yea I do something similar for mine. Lightest I have loaded is 168grn Hornadys but I normally use 174grn Berger. Too expensive tho, so yea, I will work something up with some cheaper pills.

A bit off topic but have you tried the blue box Prvi ammo? 174grn FMJ. MAN do those hit HARD!! noticeably harder than GP11.

In my experience-opinion privi ammo is loaded to max+ In a brand new 30-06 first shot was privi, locked up the bolt, had to pound on the bench to open the bolt. Other ammo I had was just fine and cycled well. Prvi is some hot s##t

It says on the sheet except a photographer ,I'm not...............150gr Win PPSP ......................distance 100 yards off the bench......Harold

Winchester power point soft point.......bulk bullets in a 100 lot bag .......same bullet in the factory ammo Winchester sells. Any 150gr bullet can be loaded but seating depth will be different because of the bullet profile.........this will also affect case capacity so back off two grains and work up watching for pressure signs.........Harold

See, thing is, I have shot many boxes of 198grn Prvi thru my Yugo Mauser (8x57) and it was medium at best. Not really hot. About the same as my 44grn 4064 and 198grn FMJ loads. Maybe a touch hotter but not much. So, imagine my surprise when I first touched off one of these...

No signs of over pressure tho. cases heads, necks etc look fine. not hard to open bolt. Just a real quick and hard smack on the shoulder. Actually hurts sometimes. I suspect a fast powder, but I don't know.

I don't usually shoot factory so I wouldn't know what they are doing at the plant in Serbia.........I just use their brass which is actually been pretty good so far.......Harold

Brass is hard to find for this caliber. I know PRVI makes it but just don't see it on the shelves very much. GP11 seems to go on sale a few times a year and is readily available as long as you're not hunting. Other than that 30 cal bullets should are easy to find find and its a no-brainer to load.

Tradex + Budget carries brass so buy 200 and forget,I need brass.........the thing is lack of K31 specific data. You have to manually seat bullets you wish to use to get the proper distance from the rifling Re: short throat for the GP11 ball. 7.5x55 book data is almost always for another model of Swiss rifle so their COAL will be wrong...dies can vary as well as all are not cut to K31 chamber specs....Redding is...Harold

These K31's supposedly has SIG or Hamerelli barrels 3 groove ? Harold

Three groove Swiss barrels were for the older GP90(1890) 7.5x53.5 ammo.
For Model 1889, Kadet , M93....etc.
Of these Rifles the ones converted to fire GP11 have 4 groove rifling.
