7.5x55 swiss reloading with .308 bullets

Anyone reload 7.5x55 swiss for K31 with .308 (30 cal) bullets? From my research online this is generally considered safe. The bullets have to be pushed deep into the case though in order to avoid hitting the lands and groves while chambered and be able to eject an unfired round without getting the bullet stuck in the groves. Please share your thoughts/opinions/experience.

What other bullets would you use, if not 30 caliber?

K31 is tight/short throated and you will need to choose appropriate bullets and adapt the seating depth accordingly. Which is basically what everyone does when reloading anything.

I like the k11 better than the k31 personally because it's not as picky. Hornady Interlock 165gr btsp are brilliant in my k11, ok in the k31.

This. It is simply basic reloading practice to measure/understand the critical dimensions of the rifle you are loading for and adjust to suit them.

For OP, my 7th Ed. Hornady manual has load info for the K31 in it and I'm sure many others do as well.

And here I thought I was the only one who liked the K-11 better then the K-31
My K-11 shoots better then my 31 too
My 31 looks ten times better though
 
Which dies are you using to reload for the K-31? I have the RCBS 7.5x55 dies, i wonder if i should have bought their dedicated K-31 ones...
 
Ideal would be the original gp11 bullet that's .306 caliber. I measured new .308 bullets and S&B factory 7.5x55 Swiss and there was a noticeable difference between the bullet diameters on average. The GP11 also has a different ogive so you don't have to seat them in as far as with a new .308.

I'm using Hornady 7.5 Swiss die set. I didn't realize there was one made specifically for K31. Hornady has the one specifically for K31 as well but that's not the set I got.

Using Lee ones here, I load it fairly mild, use the collet neck sizer and no issues up to 5 loads so far, still chamber easily.
Cases blow out quit a bit to fit the chamber.
GP11 left, neck sized right.

I run cheap CamPro 147gr FMJ over ~40gr of IMR4064. At 100 yards off a sandbag I can usually keep a 3" group using both the K11 and K31 I have. Last spring I took the K11 with that loading out to stretch the legs and was hitting steel (12" plates) out to 350 consistently. The 400 yard plate was 3/5 usually. The 450 and 500 yard plates were tougher (one in five hits), possibly due to the limitations of the cheaper bullets, possibly due to the entire target and stand obscured by the front sight when shooting

TLDR; 308 bullets work just fine :)

Did you need a taller front sight on the k11, or aim low for 100 yds?

I load Wnchester 150gr bulk PPSP in PRIVI brass ,Fed 210 primer ,with 44gr of IMR 4895 in my K31. OAL is 2.893 and 3 shot groups at 100 yards are .652"
 
I tried altering my 7.5 Swiss load last week based on available components

I'm all out of the Magnum primers. I was using them because I had received about 300 in a combined auction lot of items and needed to use them up. I switched to Ginex Large Rifle primers. I also changed to not crimping the bullets after seating to see if saving a step hurt at all. I went to the range and fired 10 round groups of each loading. At 100 yards, there was no discernible difference in the group size (roughly 3") or POI, although the ES was twice as high which was odd. Was I less precise when weighing powder? Were the Ginex primers making that much difference? Who knows. But based on group size staying the same, I'm happy with the change and will continue this way going forward
