BUT I also know when a bore snake works and doesn't...when a NEW ones pulls out of my CZ 858 with ZERO force required...something is wrong.

7.63X39, 7.62x54, .303 are all .311 not .308

So I use a 8mm/.32cal ".314" bore snake in mine and WOW! it works way better

My .30 cal bore snake cleans everything in the house wonderfully. North American, Chinese and other Com Block. Maybe you got a ####ty snake.

Just use a size up boresnake I have cleaned my 9mm with a .40 cal boresnake many times and it hasn't gotten stuck. It is tighter but it it works.

308 is 7.62 X 51 I use my .308 bore snake in my sks all the time.

I have always just used my .30 cal snake at the range when switching from lead to jacketed bullets. Works fine, not super tight but not sloppy either. (That's what she said)
Then a good cleaning at home.

The OTIS bore snake with the adjustable swabs seem to work well with almost all bores I have tried. The starter kit containing a 26" long universal snake, 25 or so adjustable size patches and a small tube of cleaning/oiling fluid is an excellent value at $10 at Le Baron. Perhaps give it a whirl ?
