Good day all ,
Since I'm new to SKS, anyone convert their SKS to a deer rifle ? I'm thinking a thumbhole stock and scope. Thoughts ?

Jim

I've never seen a thumbhole stock on an sks that but it sounds like it could be a cool unique idea. imo as long as you like/love it go for it

The thumbhole stocks are hard to come by now, I personally run mine with a bad ace sight, with a red dot on top. I've got it in a archangel stock as well. No reason you can't take down a deer with 7.62x39.

I've heard it's called the "Dragunov" conversion or maybe diversion, not sure, it was a while ago :)

Seriously though, use SP bullets instead of FMJs. Check accuracy and if confident with that... You're set!

Use it the way it is, along with some SP ammo. Pull the fmj bullets and use some SP bullets of the same weight. That works too.

Like he said only I would add the mag wedge full rail on it so you can mount a scope to it
The rail is easy to install and does no permanent damage to the rifle so you can easily change it back

Don't you have to grind off the retention tab on the Takedown lever? I did with the one I've got.

I'd still recommend it for anyone who wants an optic on an sks though, unless it was some sort of collection-worthy rifle. Mines been great.

I bought a clone of the mag wedge rail that was made in Russia and it was a direct fit, no grinding necessary
It came with a Bolt and nut to be used instead of the lever

He means the lever that secures the rear dust cover, the tab on the lever has to be ground off to remover it when you install the rail and new pin/nut & bolt etc.

The tab on my lever was a pin that I simply drove out. My sks is a 51 I wonder if the earlier ones had a different style lever on it?
