The one in the picture is a 7.62x54 (Russian) Ross (Canadian). Used for Russian biathlon. If you can find one like that you really have an interesting rifle.
Biathlon is the correct spelling. That picture is the background of a poster I saw at the Biathlon Canada offices last winter.
They also used this style of rifle at the 1956 World Shooting Championships in Moscow for running deer matches. My dad had a spare afternoon on his schedule, and the rules allowed for walk-up entries. There was a line formed up behind a Russian army truck, so he signed out a Canadian Ross and shot the match.
